Sports News Blitz’s Claudia Jones signs for Notts County Women
Sports News Blitz writer Claudia Jones has joined Notts County Women for the 2025/26 season, marking a new chapter in her football journey while continuing her work in sports media.
From North Wales to Nottinghamshire
Born in Hawarden, a village in North Wales, Jones’ football story began when she was five.
Encouraged by her dad’s passion for the game, she played grassroots football for both girls’ and boys’ teams, and was the only girl in the boys’ league.
Her talent led her to Liverpool’s academy at the age of 13, where she developed for five years. As for international football, she represented Wales at U15, U17 and U19 levels. Unfortunately, a torn ACL at 18 temporarily halted her progress.
A road back after injury
The setback took her across the Atlantic on a soccer scholarship, but the injury meant her time in America was spent rehabbing rather than playing.
Returning home, she enrolled at Loughborough University, where she reignited her competitive spirit on the pitch last season.

A new challenge at Notts County
Now 20, Jones has committed to at least a year at Notts County Women, who play in the fourth tier of English football.
She made her debut on Sunday in a 2-1 away defeat to Kidderminster, operating in her preferred role at centre midfield.
While not on a professional contract, the move represents both a personal comeback and a fresh opportunity.
“I wanted a new challenge this year,” Jones said to Sports News Blitz about her decision to join the Nottinghamshire club.
Balancing football and writing
Alongside her playing career, Jones continues her work as a sports journalist with Sports News Blitz, bringing unique insight into the game both on and off the pitch.
Her dual role as a player and writer highlights her dedication to football in every form.
Congratulations from all of us
Everyone at Sports News Blitz is proud to see one of our own taking this next step.
We wish Claudia all the best for the season ahead and look forward to following her journey on and off the pitch.
