Nuno Espirito Santo sacked by Nottingham Forest after just three 2025/26 Premier League games

After 21 months and three games of the 2025/26 Premier League season, head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has been sacked by Nottingham Forest.

Since publicly declaring that his relationship with club owner Evangelos Marinakis had deteriorated, Nuno’s future with the Tricky Trees has been uncertain.

Nottingham Forest released a statement on September 9, past midnight, thanking “Nuno for his contribution during a very successful era at the City Ground,” adding that he will “always hold a special place in our journey.”

They also showed appreciation for Nuno’s leadership in their strong 2024/25 season, stating that it is a season that “will be forever remembered fondly in the history of the club.”

A memorable 2024/25 campaign

Forest were one of the most consistent teams in that Premier League season, and a side that were difficult for any side to face.

They went unbeaten against Liverpool last season, beating them at Anfield, and enjoyed victories over Manchester City, Aston Villa, Manchester United and Tottenham, among others.

Nuno’s men were in contention for UEFA Champions League qualification for most of the season, but a tricky end to the season saw them only qualify for the Conference League.

However, they were promoted to the Europa League at Crystal Palace's expense after the Eagles breached multi-club ownership rules.

Seventh in the league was their highest finish since the 1994/95 season, and marked the first time they had qualified for Europe in three decades.

After the success, Nuno penned a new three-year deal in June.

Three games into the new season, Forest currently sit 10th in the table, with one win, one draw, and one loss.

Nuno’s final game in charge was a shocking 3-0 loss to a struggling West Ham team.
