WSL news: 2024/25 Women’s Super League season review

The 2024/25 Women’s Super League season concluded with Chelsea dominating more than ever before.

Here, Sports News Blitz’s Claudia Jones reflects on the Blues’ impressive season and highlights the season’s top performers across the table.

Chelsea paint England Blue yet again

Chelsea achieved an unbeaten league season, becoming the first team in WSL history to complete a 22-game season without a loss.

In doing so, the Blues secured their sixth consecutive Women’s Super League title.

They clinched the WSL title with two games remaining, finishing the season on 60 points. In second place, behind Chelsea by 12 points were Arsenal.

This season wasn't just about league dominance. Under new manager Sonia Bompastor, Chelsea also lifted more silverware, winning the FA Cup and Women’s League Cup.

Achieving the domestic treble demonstrates the complete domination from Bompastor’s side this season.

The final podium places, the UWCL, relegation and promotion

Arsenal clinched second place on the final day of the season with an exciting 4-3 win over Manchester United. They finished the campaign with 48 points.

Despite losing out to Chelsea in the league, Arsenal earned themselves silverware this season, through their historic UEFA Women’s Champions League triumph.

Stealing headlines, Arsenal beat Barcelona in the final, with a 1-0 victory thanks to Blackstenius’ goal.

Manchester United secured third place in the league, confirming their spot in the Champions League.

The other end of the table is Crystal Palace with only 10 points on the board all season. They face relegation to WSL 2.

Taking their place will be the London City Lionesses, following an impressive season in the Championship.

They finished top of the table with just a two-point lead over second-place Birmingham City.

Alessia Russo

Alessia Russo is another Arsenal player who could not be left off this list.

The England international won the 2024/25 Golden Boot alongside Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw, both scoring 12 goals.

Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw

The other Golden Boot winner - Bunny Shaw - also deserves a mention. She has had an impressive season, with 12 goals and one assist in 14 games.

Bunny earned the best goals per game average across the WSL this season with 0.85 per match.
