Premier League betting tips: Florian Wirtz to score against Man City, Leeds to win and more Gameweek 25 betting tips

Ahoy hoi. How are we getting on, people? I needed Liverpool to beat Newcastle 3-1 for a £1300+ touch last weekend. 3-1 in the 93rd minute at Anfield. Five minutes of injury-time. Finished 4-1. Absolute gas oven job. Nick Pope...I hate you.

In other news, for those who believe in conspiracy theories, Burnley have not won in the Premier League since October 26. October 26 is also the last time I washed my car. Makes you think...

Read on for a breakdown of the best bets from this weekend’s Premier League TV games from Sports News Blitz’s punting laureate - The Bookie Basher - including Sunday, February 8’s big one between Liverpool and Manchester City.

Leeds United vs Nottingham Forest

Rare Friday night Premier League fixture, and Leeds will be looking to bounce back after that shellacking at home to Arsenal last week.

Both of these teams are scrapping for survival as 16th hosts 17th, a fixture that was known in old money as a ‘relegation six-pointer’.

The Tricky Trees have not won at Elland Road since 2016, and Leeds home form could be the difference here.

The Peacocks have beaten Chelsea, Fulham and Crystal Palace on their own patch, and if Brendan Aaronson is in the mood, look for the Yorkshire giants to bag a huge three points under the lights.

Suggested bet: Leeds United to win 2-1 at 9/1 (bet365)

Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur

The record for the most Premier League assists in a single season is jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne, who both managed 20 in one campaign.

Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes could beat that if he stays fit. The Portuguese magician may look like the bloke on holiday who gives you the nod to say it’s OK to go down the water slide, but he has 12 assists already and remains the standout player for this Red Devils team.

He is a 5/2 poke to register an assist here, and that looks puntable given Tottenham’s defensive travails this season.

Suggested bet: Fernandes over 0.5 assists at 5/2 (Betway)

Newcastle United vs Brentford

Eddie Howe is feeling the heat as Newcastle boss, despite delivering a trophy for the Toon Army last season.

Mate of mine texted me on WhatsApp on Wednesday night shortly after going 3-0 down to Manchester City ‘Up there with some of the worst Steve Bruce football this. Fancy 15 pints on Saturday and a spot of rowdy behaviour?’

I am yet to reply, but changing gears slightly, there have been an average of 4.1 goals per game in Premier League meetings between Brentford and Newcastle, which, as stats go, is pretty wild.

Defensively, the Geordies look all over the place, so 7/4 that this game produces over 3.5 goals is a temptation.

Suggested bet: Over 3.5 goals at 7/4 (Betfred / Paddy Power / skybet)

Brighton vs Crystal Palace

M23 derby on Sunday, and Brighton look must bet material.

Palace are in their ‘Sell everyone, good vibes only’ era and confidence is on the floor. I make it a no-win in any competition since December 11 for the Eagles, and in that time, they have sold all their best players and lost to Macclesfield.

Sh*t show doesn’t even come close. It’s Moneyball, but with more tears and a p*ssed off manager losing his rag in interviews on the regular.

Suggested bet: Brighton to win at 21/20 (betway)

Liverpool vs Manchester City

Man City needs three points here. They cannot afford to fall any further behind Arsenal at this point, who are as short as 2/9 again now to win the league. But it’s a tough ask.

Liverpool weren’t at it for the first 35 minutes against Newcastle last week, but then dipped the clutch and took over against the Mags. They’ve scored 10 goals in their last two matches, and Florian Wirtz is starting to show what he is all about.

Wirtz's six goals for the club since joining in the summer have all come in his last 10 appearances, so 9/2 about him finding the net in this one looks a cracking price (he is as short as 11/4 to notch with some firms) and I am all over this tousled ball of attacking German mischief.

The Cityzens blew a half-time lead in a Premier League match for the fifth time this season against Spurs, highlighting a worrying trend for Pep Guardiola’s side.

As a neutral, it would be nice to see the title race remain a race, but my hunch is that Liverpool can win this and as Auld Edgar said in William Shakespeare's tragedy King Lear ‘The Wirtz is not. So long as we can say 'This is the Wirtz.’

Suggested bet: Wirtz to score anytime at 9/2 (Bet Victor / Coral / Ladbrokes)
