ITV horse racing tips and best bets for Newbury and Warwick on Saturday, February 7
Sports News Blitz’s horse racing tipster Jeff Mexico can’t remember much of the 2000s, so he was relieved when his name didn’t appear in Jeffrey Epstein’s unsealed court documents that were released this week.
He also can’t remember a six-month fling with actress Cameron Diaz in 2007, which he understandably regrets on a daily basis.
Fortunately for us, his racing betting knowledge is still tip top and this Saturday he plunges into the murky depths of ITV’s eight-race offering from Newbury and Warwick.
Jeff Mexico’s racing tips
The price of chocolate is set to fall, but I still haven’t forgiven Cadbury for discontinuing their Fuse range.
It was an incredibly dense chocolate bar with peanuts, raisins, crispy bits and fudge – so weighty that you could easily beat a man to death with it.
Obviously, I’ve not gone that far, but I did use it to threaten people when I went through a period of holding up commuter trains in South East England.
It was amazing how many wallets and purses you could collect by just removing a Fuse from your pocket.
Hopefully, by the time you’ve read my tips for this weekend’s action, Cadbury will have reconsidered their foolish decision from the 2000s … although probably not.
After all, they are owned by Americans now rather than a load of religious Brummies, like in the good old days. Sad times.

13:00 (Newbury) – The William Hill Proper Prices Novices’ Hurdle
Main tip: Sober Glory
Has won five of six starts over hurdles under rules, including an emphatic 13-length victory at Newbury in January, so handles the track well. Proven winner on ground that looks similar to Saturday’s soft/heavy in places conditions, and Harry Cobden is in the saddle too.
Each-way tip: Fantasy World
A Nicky Henderson runner stepping over hurdles following an excellent flat career with Listed success.
13:15 (Warwick) – The Warwick Mares’ Hurdle
Main tip: Jubilee Alpha
Has run well in recent bumpers and hurdles, including a narrow second on a similar trip at Sandown and respectable efforts at Cheltenham. Official rating and profile suggest she handles this level well and she’s favoured to be prominent throughout.
Each-way tip: La Pinsonniere
Often in the frame, with solid placed efforts in graded company and a win at Huntingdon over a similar trip.

13:35 (Newbury) – The William Hill Top Price Guarantee Handicap Hurdle
Main tip: A Pai De Nom
Has already shown progressive handicap form this season, winning on his handicap debut at Cheltenham before following up at Leicester. He then travelled well and ran a forward race in the Lanzarote Hurdle at Kempton. Has been campaigned over longer trips and handles soft ground well. Skelton combo is another plus.
Each-way selection: Below The Radar
Has been running well over staying distances and recently finished second of 17 in a competitive handicap at Haydock. Unexposed over staying distances relative to some rivals, but isn’t a standout out-and-out stayer in every run, yet can be competitive at this level.
13:50 (Warwick) – The Kingmaker Novices’ Steeple Chase
Main tip: Mambonumberfive
Has already shown a clear pattern of improvement this season, winning his first three starts over fences. He has taken his chasing form forward well, culminating in a Grade 2 success in the Ladbrokes Wayward Lad Novices’ Chase at Kempton. Trainer Ben Pauling has done a fine job placing this gelding in races where he can step up in grade progressively. That makes him look the most reliable in terms of genuine class in this small field.
Each-way tip: Three-horse race, so don’t bother. Stick it on the nose.

14:10 (Newbury) – The William Hill Bet10 Get10 On Racing Denman Steeple Chase
Main tip: L’Homme Presse
Strong overall chase record with multiple wins over top-class trips, including success at similar distances. This Denman Chase is a classic Cheltenham Gold Cup trial, and L’Homme Presse has the tough characteristics to thrive in this small field.
Each-way: Don’t bother, it’s a four-horse race. A 1-2 forecast will give you better odds, so stick Haiti Couleurs in there.
14:25 (Warwick) – The Unibet Middle Distance Series Veterans’ Handicap Steeple Chase
Main tip: Knappers Hill
A very smart hurdler and has already shown useful form over fences, including a chase win at Wincanton and placed efforts this season. He has a solid strike rate over jumps and retains plenty of ability in veteran company.
Each-way tip: Outlaw Peter
Had a productive first season over fences, winning three times. His form this season hasn’t matched that peak yet, but this race is specifically for veterans and could allow him to regain confidence. If he jumps more fluently and settles into a rhythm early, he could be competitive enough to be in the final mix.

14:45 (Newbury) – The William Hill Best Odds Guaranteed Game Spirit Steeple Chase
Main tip: Lulamba
Outstanding novice chaser with an unbeaten record over fences after comfortably winning both his starts so far, including a Grade 1 success in the Henry VIII Novices’ Chase at Sandown. His chase wins have come over varying conditions, and his proven turn of foot and fluent jumping should offset any stamina test posed by the surface.
Each-way tip: Saint Segal
Recent record includes solid performances where he has been beaten narrowly by quality horses. Brings experience of middle-distance chase racing and is a very plausible place-finisher even if he lacks a turn of foot to overhaul the classier Lulamba.
15:20 (Newbury) – The William Hill Hurdle Race
Main tip: Let It Rain
Has taken well to handicap company and shown strong recent form, including a solid run when placed off a similar mark on soft ground.
Each-way tip: All In You
Arrives here on the back of a comfortable win at Sandown, beating useful rivals. Her best efforts this season have seen her compete closely with other main contenders, so she doesn’t need ideal conditions to be involved in the finish.
Good luck everyone, and remember to never gamble in your pants.
