New Zealand preview

New Zealand come into the series with confidence after finishing as runners-up at the World Cup.

The highlight of The Black Caps’ T20 World Cup 2026 campaign was their semi-final win over the Proteas, but they couldn’t match a formidable Indian side and eventually finished as runners-up.

This series, however, has a different feel. New Zealand have rested several senior players and are treating the matches as an opportunity to test the depth of their squad. The team begin their gradual transition towards the next cycle.

Recent form: L-W-L-W-NR

Potential XI: Devon Conway (wk), Tim Robinson, Nick Kelly, Tom Latham, Bevon Jacobs, Mitchell Santner (c), Jimmy Neesham, Zak Foulkes, Ben Sears, Kyle Jamieson, Ish Sodhi

South Africa preview

South Africa were one of the more impressive teams at the recently concluded World Cup. A dominant win over India put them among the top title contenders.

South Africa will be keen to regroup and start shaping their squad for the next cycle. Like the Black Caps, South Africa are using this series to look ahead rather than back.

Regular captain Aiden Markram has been rested, with Keshav Maharaj stepping in to lead a new-look squad. The Proteas have included five uncapped players to identify options as they start planning for the next World Cup cycle.

Recent form: L-W-W-W-W

Potential XI: Connor Esterhuizen, Tony de Zorzi, Rubin Hermann, Jordan Hermann, Jason Smith, Dian Forrester, George Linde, Keshav Maharaj (c), Ottneil Baartman, Lutho Sipamla, Nqobani Mokoena

Match betting tips

This South African contingent looks short on experience compared to their counterparts. Overall squad balance and the home conditions favour the Black Caps to come out on top.

New Zealand’s odds to win: 1.60

South Africa’s odds to win: 2.30

Players betting tips

1. Devon Conway - Top New Zealand batsman (3.50)

The wicket-keeper batsman warmed the bench in the T20 World Cup 2026. The left-handed opener will walk to the pitch to prove a point.

1. Tony de Zorzi - Top South Africa batsman (5.00)

Not as flamboyant as modern T20 batters, but Tony de Zorzi is someone who piles on runs. Worth considering in the top South Africa batter market.
