World Pool expands with new races at York and Newmarket
Two new World Pool races from York are set to be globally commingled alongside eight World Pool races from Ascot on King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day on Saturday 26 July.
The G2 York Stakes and the Dash Handicap will be part of World Pool for the first time and feature alongside the day’s major meeting from Ascot, which includes the G1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Both York races will also be given a major prize money boost, with the York Stakes up by £15,000 to £150,000, and the Dash Handicap given a £25,000 uplift to £100,000.
While York will benefit from the extra races this month, August will see Newmarket host two new World Pool races, including the Listed Hopeful Stakes, on the same day as York’s Nunthorpe Stakes Day card.
Following King George VII & Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day, World Pool will be back on German soil on Sunday 27 July for two races on Grosser Preis Bayerisches Zuchtrennen Day from Munich Racecourse.
Joining the racing from Munich on the 27 July will be a full card of races on Champions Cup Day from Greyville Racecourse in South Africa.
A further two German World Pool meetings will follow in August, with first the Preis der Diana - German Oaks Day from Dusseldorf Racecourse on Sunday 3 August and then Grosser Preis von Berlin Day from Hoppegarten Racecourse on Sunday 10 August, part of a busy World Pool schedule.
Between the three upcoming German fixtures, World Pool will be in action for three days of Glorious Goodwood – Goodwood Cup Day, Sussex Stakes Day and Nassau Stakes Day – in the UK, with all races on the three days being globally commingled.
William Derby, Chief Executive & Clerk of the Course, said: “York is honoured that the Hong Kong Jockey Club has chosen to increase the number of races from the Knavesmire that are available to global bettors via World Pool.
“The boost in global betting profile means that we have invested further in the purses for two races on Saturday 26 July. Since the first renewals post pandemic (2021), the Sky Bet Dash has now been doubled in value to £100,000; with the Sky Bet York Stakes increased by over 30% in the same time span, to now be £150,000. We look forward to competitive and exciting debuts.”
Sam Nati, Head of Commingling at the Hong Kong Jockey Club, said: “The injection of prize money into the two races at York is a great outcome and aligns with the goals of World Pool, not only as a wagering brand, but as a key instrument to drive industry confidence and sustainability.
“As always, the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes shapes as a key race in what has already been a riveting summer of British racing.”
