World Pool expands 2025 fixtures with new race days in UK, Australia and Brazil

World Pool has confirmed fixtures for the remainder of 2025, with the globally commingled pools set to be in operation on new race days from Australia and the UK in the final quarter of the year.

World Pool will be active for the first time on Dewhurst Stakes Day from Newmarket as well as Might And Power (Caulfield Stakes) Day from Caulfield on 11 October.

Following those fixtures, the Hong Kong Jockey Club-powered pools will make their Brazilian debut, when Gavea Racecourse in Rio de Janeiro hosts Grand Premio Latinamericano on October 19. The corresponding race back in 2023, which took place in Argentina, was also a World Pool race.

With the fixture list expanding in Australia, VRC Champion Stakes Day on 8 November from Flemington Racecourse has also been added to the World Pool roster, with three Group 1 races featuring the final day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

In a further development, all races on Sha Tin’s Hong Kong International Races Day on December 14 will be globally commingled this year, an increase following the four Group 1 races on the card being part of World Pool in 2024.

Eight Group 1s in one day; The Everest and Cox Plate return as World Pool events

World Pool will host one of its biggest ever composite race days on October 18, with eight Group 1s across British Champions Day, The Everest Day and the Caufield Cup.

With the Long Distance Cup being upgraded to a Group 1 for 2025, Ascot’s British Champions Day card will now feature five Group 1s, while two Group 1s on The Everest Day from Randwick will join the Group 1 Caulfield Cup to make three top-level contests from Australia on the day.

The Everest Day is highlighted by the AU$20 million The Everest, one of the IFHA’s Top 100 races last year, which could see Hong Kong’s Horse of the Year, Ka Ying Rising attempt to land a first Group 1 on foreign soil.

Ranked one of the IFHA’s Top 10 races last year, the Cox Plate, will return as a World Pool event on Cox Plate Day (25 October) from Moonee Valley. A full 10-race card will be commingled this year, after last being commingled as a 9-race card in 2023 when Hong Kong champion Romantic Warrior emerged victorious in the feature race. This also marks the last time the track hosts the Cox Plate before it undergoes major redevelopment.

Sam Nati, Head of Commingling at the Hong Kong Jockey Club, said: “We are excited to announce an expanded programme of race days for Q4, after what has already been an excellent year of growth for World Pool.

“Several significant new race days from Australia and the UK have been added to the roster as we seek to broaden our coverage of the very best racing worldwide and include as many LONGINES IFHA Top 100 races as possible, important classics and other key lead-up races. We are also breaking new ground with our first Brazilian race day scheduled for October.”
