Punter’s big win returns extra £7k thanks to BOG
A William Hill racing punter landed a big bet to start the bank holiday weekend, when their 5p Goliath returned close to £12k, over half of which was thanks to Best Odds Guaranteed.
Their Goliath bet (£12.35 total stake) didn’t get off to the best start when Oh Yes You Do (12/1) could only finish fourth in Goodwood’s opening contest on Saturday, but wins for Just Keep Flying (12/1) and Queen All Star (13/2) at Goodwood, followed by Tiva (6/1) at Newmarket, Grey Skies (11/1) at Cartmel and Arabian Crown (9/2) at Windsor turned the bet around.
Despite Bintjeddah (11/4) and Launceston (9/2) failing to find the mark in the final two races at Windsor, the earlier wins were enough to secure a fantastic return.
At the taken prices, the punter’s winnings would have totalled £4,019.90, but with Grey Skies’ final SP double the price taken and Tiva and Arabian Crown also returning at bigger odds, their winnings soared to £11,777.95 thanks to BOG.
Just the day before, the leading bookmaker had been stung by another big winning bet, with a punter landing four winners in succession on the third day of York’s Ebor Festival as Trawlerman (8/11), Lifeplan (9/2), Asfoora (8/1) and Cape Flora (5/1) all came home in front to turn a £20 stake into £14,758.83.
Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “We’ve really had to duck for cover recently with two big multiples landing on consecutive days. These are two smashing bets, and we have to congratulate both racing punters who have found a fistful of winners and come away with more than a fistful of cash.
“Landing a Goliath of big-priced winners is no mean feat and Saturday’s winning punter was rewarded by a significant winnings hike thanks to Best Odds Guaranteed. With several of their winners going off at bigger SPs than their taken prices, they pocketed an extra £7,758.05 to take their total winnings to close to £12k.
“To turn £20 into the best part of £15k is brilliant betting too, especially on such a competitive day of racing at York, and we’re sure both punters had a bank holiday weekend to remember.”
