Premier League betting tips: Eli Junior Kroupi to score against Liverpool, Arsenal to beat Man Utd and more Gameweek 23 betting tips

How are we getting on? If you are a punter who likes to steam into an odds-on shot, last weekend’s Premier League fixtures were absolute carnage with Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Aston Villa all failing to win.

I’ve actually had quite a relaxing week and have been reading a few books. It’s actually insane that a penguin wrote all those classics, isn’t it?

Read on for a breakdown of the best bets from this weekend’s Premier League TV games from Sports News Blitz’s punting bon vivant - The Bookie Basher - including Sunday’s big one between Arsenal and Manchester United.

West Ham United vs Sunderland

The Hammers haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last 19 Premier League games, and despite that huge win against Spurs last time out, are still in the bottom three.

The Black Cats have taken almost double the number of points West Ham have so far, and as a result are sitting pretty in ninth at the time of writing.

Their away record 2-4-5 is not too shabby, and they look live underdogs here at bigger than 7/4 to claim a big win in London.

Suggested bet: Sunderland to win at 19/10 (Coral)

Bournemouth vs Liverpool

Liverpool have won 12 of their last 13 Premier League games against Bournemouth, but would you really have the minerals to get stuck into the away win here at 10/11?

The Reds’ last 17 games - dating back to defeat at Crystal Palace in September - have seen an average return of 1.24 points per game.

That’s nowhere near good enough, and the main reason why they are 150/1 shots now to retain the league title.

They have drawn four on the bounce in the league, and Bournemouth are no mugs. The Cherries have picked up 19 points at HQ (lost just two at home so far), and I don’t hate the draw here at 3/1.

Eli Junior Kroupi has scored seven goals in 17 Premier League appearances, and I’m having a little go on the precocious French teenager at 13/2 to score first. Bonnet de douche, as they say in the Nags Head.

Suggested bet: Eli Junior Kroupi to score first at 13/2 (bet365 / Paddy Power)

Newcastle United vs Aston Villa

Everton took the wind right out of Aston Villa’s sails with a shock 1-0 win on Sunday, January 18. However, 14/5 about the away win looks a massive overreaction from the bookies.

Unai Emery's strollers have claimed 18 away points so far this season and fully deserve to be third in the table.

The Toon are a different animal on Tyneside, but have lost twice at home in the league already and have been a bit erratic all season if we are being honest. In short, 14/5 is worth tickling.

As an aside, I hate it when modern players cover their mouths when they talk to their team-mates. Chill out, mate, you’re not an international spy.

Suggested bet: Aston Villa to win at 14/5 (bet365)

Arsenal vs Manchester United

To fans of a certain age, this fixture evokes memories of a rancorous rivalry. When these two behemoths met, it wasn’t just football. It was warfare with shin pads.

Wenger vs Ferguson mind games. Wenger eating broccoli, being French and telling his players to swap pints of Carling for bottled water. Fergie tapping his watch in a passive-aggressive manner, stone-faced, his players never more than a sloppy pass away from the "hairdryer treatment."

It’s all changed now, of course, but Arsenal are on course for a first league title since 2004. Their home form has been exceptional. Nine wins. Two draws. Zero defeats.

They have goals in them all over the pitch, and in David Raya, they have the Premier League’s keeper with the most clean sheets (11).

Speaking of clean sheets, according to those f***ing clean shirts at Opta, there were 1,246 goals scored in the Premier League in the 2023/24 campaign, the most ever in the competition’s illustrious history in a single season at an average of 3.3 per game.

This season has seen a glut of 0-0 draws already, and after Matchday 22, there have been 603 goals at an average of 2.7 goals per game (down on the last two seasons).

Are the strikers not pulling their weight, or are teams that bit more defensively solid this season?

It’s probably a bit of both, but the bottom line is you deserve a peasant’s death if you do not get stuck into an Arsenal win this Sunday.

Suggested bet: Arsenal to win & over 2.5 goals at 11/8 (skybet)
