Padel news - Jurgen Klopp set to bring padel to Liverpool

Padel was an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s management at Liverpool. The German manager introduced the sport to the AXA Training Centre before its rise in popularity.

“Besides football, [padel is] the best game I ever played”, said the former Liverpool head coach.

Paired with Pep Lijinders, the self-proclaimed padel addict frequently played against Mo Salah and Thiago Alcantara.

Despite his departure last season, Liverpool and padel have never left his heart. In fact, his two loves are about to merge.

Klopp’s return to Liverpool

Klopp’s Padel FC, Berlin’s first indoor padel club started by Jurgen and his son, Marc, is set to bring a padel facility to Wavertree Sports Park in Liverpool. It will be the company’s first set of courts outside of Berlin.

Proposals to replace the underused tennis courts at the sports park with courts for the increasingly popular racquet sport have been approved by Liverpool City Council.

Liverpool-based architecture firm Octo Architects has reimagined the 31,000 sq ft sustainable facility, providing six indoor and three sheltered open-to-outdoor courts, along with a café, lounging areas, a shop, and changing rooms.

Construction plans have not been made public yet, but the project aligns with local policy objectives and community needs, according to the city council.

It seems like Jurgen Klopp is returning to Liverpool, only with a racket instead of a football this time.
