Padel news: Aimee Gibson moves to career-high world number 81 after impressive FIP title hat-trick

The CUPRA FIP Tour returned to the main stage in Bahrain with the FIP Bronze BBK Manama II, where British number one Aimee Gibson (81) secured her third-consecutive win with Spanish partner Alba Pérez (74), ultimately inching the rising star upwards in padel world rankings.

Here, Sports News Blitz writer Shameeka Voyiya takes a look at the Briton’s journey.

Gibson, Pérez secure title

Following success in the FIP Silver Reap Hong Kong and the FIP Bronze Lyttos II in the previous two weeks, the iconic duo secured another win in the final against Italians Giorgia Rosi (109) and Matilde Minelli (222) with a final score of 6-3 6-1.

“I never would have thought going into these last three FIPs of the season that I would win three back-to-back,” Gibson told The Padel Paper.

“For any full-time athlete, the dream is to always be in finals and win tournaments. I feel really proud of my hard work.

“Sometimes the results don’t always fall your way, but these results show if you keep going, it will pay off.”

Eventful year for Gibson

2025 has been an eventful year for Gibson, with the left-hander battling quad injury concerns after winning the FIP Silver Melbourne and FIP Silver Australia earlier this year and making it to over four FIP Bronze semi-finals.

“At the end of a long year, with a slight injury and my first time playing with Alba, it couldn’t have gone better with her. We’re going to look to play together next year as well,” added Gibson.

Her move up to a career-high world number 81 following Sunday’s win will provide a good platform for the 34-year-old to set her sights on reaching the top 50 in 2026.

Meanwhile, the CUPRA FIP Tour will conclude with the CUPRA FIP finals, which take place from 3 to 6 December in Shanghai, China.

Gibson now heads off to the inaugural LTA Padel National Championships in Bristol, where she will partner British number two Catherine Rose.

The pair then head to Australia after Christmas to defend the two titles they won in Sydney and Melbourne – with Gibson breaking into the top 100 after FIP Silver Game4Padel Open glory at the latter.
