Horse racing news: Dan Skelton’s Let It Rain set to cost bookies big in William Hill Hurdle at Newbury

William Hill have revealed that Let It Rain, the very popular 11/4 favourite for the William Hill Hurdle at Newbury, is set to be a big loser should she oblige on Saturday.

The Skeltons’ mare has been an extremely popular pick for punters since betting was opened on the feature contest from William Hill Super Saturday.

The 8/1 that was available in January was quickly hoovered up and her price has continued to plummet, with her now sitting as the hot 11/4 favourite.

Lulamba to excite

Elsewhere on the William Hill Super Saturday card, all eyes will be drawn to the highly exciting Lulamba in the Grade 2 William Hill Game Spirit Chase.

Nicky Henderson’s ante-post Arkle favourite, currently 5/4 for Cheltenham non-runner money back, is 4/5 to land the odds on Saturday in his first start in open company.

Rebecca Curtis’ Welsh National hero Haiti Couleurs is another star name on the day and is a strong 8/13 chance to land the Grade 2 William Hill Denman Chase, with gallant Cotswold Chase second L’Homme Presse second favourite at 15/8.

Cracking afternoon awaits

Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “William Hill Super Saturday at Newbury is shaping up to be a cracking afternoon, and there are a host of betting moves keeping our traders on their toes.

Let It Rain is all the rage in the William Hill Hurdle. She’s been a massive ante-post punt, available at as big as 8/1 last month, and is a significant loser in our books now at 11/4.

“There’ve been some well-backed winning favourites in this race’s history, such as My Tent Or Yours, Ballyandy, and Al Dancer, and we’re hoping Let It Rain won’t be the next.

“We’re very excited to see Lulamba in the William Hill Game Spirit. He was as big as 7/4 earlier in the week when Nicky Henderson ruled out Jango Baie from the Denman, but he’s flown right back into 4/5 now.

“It’ll be fascinating to see how he copes in his first run in open company, and an impressive performance here will surely see punters latching onto him further for the Arkle.

“He’s currently 5/4 favourite for that with us, non-runner money back, but that could all be gone come Saturday afternoon.

Haiti Couleurs adds a touch of class to the William Hill Denman Chase. Rebecca Curtis’ Welsh and Irish Grand National hero is a heavy odds-on shot at 8/13 to win this, and it looks like punters expect him to advertise his Cheltenham Gold Cup claims.

“He’s currently 10/1 non-runner money back for the Festival Blue Riband, and again, that could be wiped out should he impress at Newbury.”
