IndyCar news: Kyle Kirkwood signs a multiyear contract extension with Andretti Global
Andretti have renewed their contract with Floridian driver Kyle Kirkwood, keeping him in the No. 27 car until at least 2026.
Here, Sports News Blitz’s Ayla Vaughan explores Kirkwood’s past and future as an Andretti driver in IndyCar.
Details of the multiyear contract extension
Andretti Global announced on Monday, November 3, that Kyle Kirkwood has signed a multiyear contract extension to remain with the team for the foreseeable future.
Kirkwood will drive alongside Marcus Ericsson and Will Power in 2026, who was replaced at Penske by David Malukas, having driven for the team since 2009.
Whilst the Floridian will be comfortable driving alongside his team-mate Ericsson (2022 Indianapolis 500 winner), Power will be a new challenge for him since he is a two-time IndyCar series champion and 2018 Indianapolis 500 winner.
Nonetheless, Kirkwood will no doubt be eager to fill the shoes of his former team-mate Colton Herta, who is driving in Formula 2 next year to prepare him for an eventual seat in F1 with Cadillac, as he is currently their test driver.
The 27-year-old driver told IndyCar that: “These are very exciting times for myself, Andretti Global and TWG Motorsports.
“I’d first like to thank the entire team, and especially Dan Towriss and Jill Gregory, for putting their trust in me.
“We’ve had an amazing three years together, and our future together is very bright. We have proven to be true contenders, and most recently, championship contenders.
“Our trajectory has only been up, and I am confident that we will be fighting again for championships.
“Between the new shop, leadership, team-mates and the many evolving factors within the organisation, I believe this team is an absolute powerhouse, and we’re so excited for the journey ahead.”

His achievements in IndyCar
Since joining Andretti Global in 2023, Kirkwood has gotten five wins, three pole positions and six podium finishes - as well as leading more than 300 laps.
His best season to date was this year, where he got three wins, with those being in Long Beach, Detroit and World Wide Technology Raceway.
All these great results meant that the Floridian had a career-best fourth-place finish in the series standings, where he scored ahead of his two team-mates.
Kirkwood will need to continue with this great momentum into next year to challenge for the title by scoring even more wins, pole positions and podiums to come out on top.
The 27-year-old will also hope to perform much more consistently, as he finished out of the top 10 seven times in 2025, showing that he will need to improve and adapt to new challenges.
Jill Gregory, Andretti Global president, said to IndyCar that:
“Kyle represents exactly what we strive for across TWG Motorsports and Andretti Global.
His blueprint for success has made him a key part of our INDYCAR lineup defined by talent, tenacity and a relentless drive to win.
Kyle’s growth and ambition reflect the strength of Andretti Global and our commitment to developing world-class competitors on and off the track.”
