Boxing news: Montegriffo brothers eyeing destruction in Derby, UK
Kriss (1-0, 1 KO) and Evan (1-0) Montegriffo are quickly becoming household names in their hometown of Gibraltar, with the brothers' boxing prowess garnering traction on ‘The Rock’.
The boxers both made their professional debuts back in March, tasting victory in style, on an electric Gibraltar-based card.
They are now looking to the future, and it seems the boxing brothers will be lacing up again soon, writes Sam Condy.
Derby date confirmed
The bout has been confirmed on social media, with the brothers revealing on social media that they will be stepping between the ropes on December 20 at the Vaillant Arena, Derby.
Speaking to Sports News Blitz, Kriss Montegriffo appears full of confidence ahead of his return date.
“So, Christmas is gonna come early for all the fans in Derby, because we are bringing it to them on the 20th.”
Elsewhere on the card, the undefeated Alan Graves (5-0, 5 KOs) is set to headline the evening action.
The destructive middleweight will have a tough test in front of him, as he takes on Germany’s David Kerkmann (26-2, 22 KOs).
Kerkmann will prove to be a huge step up for the 35-year-old, with the German having shared the ring with the likes of Mohamad Mardenli and Alem Begic.
Rumours of a Matchroom connection
The brothers were recently pictured with Matchroom Boxing CEO Frank Smith, spreading rumours regarding a potential future deal with the boxing promotional kingpins.
Speaking in an exclusive interview, Evan Montegriffo chose to keep his cards close to his chest.
“When we did our pro debut in March, our idea was making the boxing scene busy in Gibraltar,” he told Sports News Blitz.
“Having someone come over and give us three, four fights a year, rather than us having to go abroad. Which is also an option and we don’t have a problem with that.
“But our fans, and the people of Gibraltar, wanna see us on ‘The Rock’. It’s taken us about five or six months, but the picture can tell you something I guess.”
If the rumours are true, could the upcoming night in Derby prove to be one final test from Eddie Hearn and co. before he takes the leap of faith with the Gibraltarian prospects?
