Horse racing news: True Love holds edge over Gstaad ahead of Phoenix Stakes, says Timeform
A mouthwatering clash between Timeform’s top two-year-old colt, Gstaad, and top two-year-old filly, True Love, is in prospect this Saturday at The Curragh in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes.
And with Ryan Moore making the decision to ride the former, the Coventry winner currently heads the betting, but True Love (122p) continues to rate slightly ahead of Gstaad (120p) on Timeform’s weight-adjusted ratings.
Form against potential
Gstaad came out on top by less than a length when the two faced up in a Navan maiden in the spring, but True Love couldn’t have been more impressive in her two outings since, particularly in the Railway Stakes over course and distance when becoming the first filly to win the Group 2 contest in over 30 years.
Timeform’s Lead Flat Analyst, David Johnson said: “As is so often the case, the biggest threat to the Aidan O’Brien–trained favourite in a Group 1 race comes from the same stable.
“And with the aid of the fillies allowance, True Love looks a genuine threat to Gstaad judged on her impressive win over course and distance in the Railway Stakes last time.
“Time will tell whether Ryan Moore has chosen the right one, but as we saw in the Oaks when he sided with Minnie Hauk over Whirl, potential over proven form can be just as important when assessing unexposed horses.
“And the way Gstaad won the Coventry suggests he should have plenty more to come.”
