The 2027 TMRW Golf League (TGL) season is under two months away, with the indoor simulator league returning for its third season.
Seven star-studded teams will take part in the upcoming season, with the teams now consisting of five players, compared to four in the last two seasons.
The indoor league, which was co-founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, kicks off on December 27, at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Here, Sports News Blitz’s golf writer Jay Kennedy goes through all the TGL details ahead of the 2027 edition.
The league format
The TGL one-on-one team matches take place over 15 holes, rather than the traditional 18 holes.
For the first nine holes, three players per team compete in an alternate shot format, whereas for the final six, each player plays two holes against an opposition player.
Just like match play, a point is won on each hole with the lowest score.
Each team plays five matches, with two points for a win, one for an overtime loss, and zero for a regulation loss.
At the end of the season, the top four teams reach the semi-finals, which are single elimination.
The final operates in a two-out-of-three format to determine the winner.
TGL match rules
There are several vital rules that must be followed in the TGL matches.
All players play under a shot clock, giving them 40 seconds to play their shot once the ball is on the ground.
Teams get four timeouts per match, with two in the triples and singles each.
‘The Hammer’ is another rule that is used in every fixture.
Each team starts a match with three Hammers, and are thrown on any hole to add a point onto the hole’s value.
If the opposing team refuses the Hammer, the hole is forfeited.
If the match ends level, an alternate chipping shot overtime shootout takes place.
The team with the two closest shots to the hole wins.
Every match, an on-course referee enforces these rules.
