Golf news: Ian Poulter, Tyrell Hatton and more quit LIV Golf as departure list grows

The mass exodus of LIV Golf continues, as some of the most popular golfers from the home nations have called it quits.

This adds to a very unsatisfying last few weeks for the tour, as Jon Rahm tops the list of big players to recently bid farewell to LIV.

Here, Sports News Blitz’s golf writer Jay Kennedy goes through the latest Britons who have cut ties with LIV Golf within the last few days.

Ian Poulter

The first of several home nations players to announce their departure from LIV Golf is England’s Ian Poulter.

The Englishman has won three PGA Tour titles, and won his last event at the 2018 Houston Open.

Nicknamed ‘The Postman’, the former Open Championship runner-up joined the LIV Golf tour in 2022.

He became co-captain of Majesticks GC, alongside fellow Englishman Lee Westwood and  Sweden’s Henrik Stenson, until the Swede left LIV after the 2025 season.

For Majesticks, Poulter co-led the team to a sixth-placed finish in the 2022 team standings.

The 50-year-old achieved his best solo LIV performance at the 2024 Chicago event, finishing fifth.

His best finish in the 2026 season was tied for 15th at LIV Golf UK, which took place at JCB.

In the 2026 season, Majesticks finished 12th in the team standings, whilst Poulter finished 42nd in the solo standings.

Tyrell Hatton

Another Englishman who announced their departure recently is Tyrell Hatton.

The 35-year-old has one PGA Tour title to his name, the 2020 Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Hatton has had excellent success in the last year in majors, finishing in the top five at the 2025 US Open, and tied for third at this year’s Masters.

The Englishman joined LIV Golf in 2024, where he became a member of the Legion XIII team, alongside the Spaniard Jon Rahm.

Hatton claimed two solo titles on the LIV tour, and won the 2024 Nashville and 2026 Andalucia events.

He also won the 2025 team championship with Legion XIII.

In the 2026 season, Legion XIII came third in the team points standings, whereas Hatton came fifth in the solo standings.

Graeme McDowell

It is not just the English that have departed, as the Northern Irish have also had some standout names depart from the tour in the last few days.

The first is the 2010 US Open champion, Graeme McDowell.

McDowell is well known for being the man to help Europe clinch the 2010 Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor, as he holed a crucial putt on the 16th hole in Sunday singles.

He has three PGA Tour and 10 European Tour crowns to his name.

McDowell signed with LIV Golf in 2022 and joined Cleeks GC, the same team as two-time major winner and former world number one Martin Kaymer.

He later joined the OKGC team in 2024.

He achieved his best solo LIV finish at LIV Golf Virginia 2025, where he finished in a tie for second place.

This season, OKGC finished eighth in the team standings, and McDowell came 46th in the solo standings.

Tom McKibbin

The other Northern Irishman to depart the tour recently was Tom McKibbin.

The 23-year-old joined LIV Golf in 2025, wherein he became a member of Legion XIII.

McKibbin has one DP World Tour title to his name, the 2023 Porsche European Open.

His best solo finish on the LIV tour was tied for fourth at LIV Golf Andalucia in 2025.

McKibbin finished in the top 10 twice in 2026, in Mexico City and New York.

This year, the Northern Irishman came in 26th place in the solo standings.

What next?

The UK firepower has now vanished, as this collection of players have said goodbye to LIV Golf.

The DP World Tour now seems the more than likely destination for the United Kingdom favourites.

All of the home nations' golf fans will now be full of hope that the departed names will play closer to home more regularly in 2027.

With just a small platter of names having committed to LIV 2.0, the stacked roster has deflated day-by-day.
