Golf betting tips: BMW Championship – Xander Schauffele seeks miracle, Sam Burns remains hopeful
It’s the final PGA Tour event before the FedEx Cup finals next week, and a stacked field is ready to tackle the BMW Championship this year to secure their top 30 spot in the rankings.
Hosted at Caves Valley, the winning score will likely sit between 20- and 30-under par, so players will need to bring their A-game to stay in contention.
Long drives and a tidy touch around the greens will be essential to keeping up with the leading pack this week.
Here, Sports News Blitz’s Sam Condy outlines four of his favourite picks ahead of the crunch-time play-off event.
Rory McIlroy
It’s been an up-and-down season for McIlroy this year.
However, he inevitably got over his Major hump, becoming just the sixth man to achieve the coveted career Grand Slam winner status.
The Brit took last week off, and I feel he will come back with a bang for the BMW Champs.
He ranks first in driving and 14th in SG: Around the Greens in this week’s field – both of which should come in handy on a course that plays into the hands of the big hitters and those with a soft touch around the putting surface.
This week, an outright pick is really between McIlroy and Scheffler, but the latter’s odds are far too flat for me to consider him a worthwhile pick.

Xander Schauffele
Schauffele wasn’t playing spectacularly last week, mostly due to some struggles in the early stages.
Yet over the weekend, he scored T3, with a scorecard behind only Scheffler and JJ Spaun.
His putter was admittedly shaky last week, and if he can get some control on the putting surface, he has all the tools to make a push for the top spots.
The pressure is thus on for the world number three as he currently sits 43rd in the FedEx Cup rankings and is in need of a last-minute miracle to make next week’s Tour Championship.

Cameron Young
Young looks like an odd pick when you consider he is only ranked 35th in SG: Off the Tee this season.
However, that is primarily due to a slight hiccup in his driving prowess earlier in the season, and the 28-year-old now looks back to his best with the big stick in hand.
He ranked first in that metric at last week’s St. Jude's Championship and fifth when he lifted the Wyndham Championship trophy at the start of the month.
Young’s form tends to come in waves, so get your swimming trunks on because it looks like the American could be catching a big one.

Sam Burns
One of the best putters on tour, Burns knows how to shoot low when the course allows for it.
27-under was the winning score last time the tournament was hosted at Caves Valley, so minimal shots on the putting surface will be a must this week for those looking to climb to the top.
Burns finished eighth at Oakmont and is in dire need of another top performance if he wants to convince Keegan Bradley he is deserving of a Ryder Cup spot.
