WWE news: Why Oba Femi’s loss to Brock Lesnar at Clash in Italy won’t affect his momentum

Oba Femi suffered his first loss since being called up to the main roster at the hands of Brock Lesnar at Clash in Italy – but it hasn’t affected his momentum.

Here, Sports News Blitz writer Mosaddek Abu discusses why The Ruler’s journey isn’t over.

Oba protected in defeat

In Turin, Lesnar ambushed Femi before the match could get underway.

He still managed to give the Beast Incarnate a scare, though, putting him down with a chokeslam.

It wasn’t the classic case of a quick-squash match or a story about how Femi wasn’t ready – and the reality is he has come out looking stronger.

The Ruler even survived an F5 through an announce table and kicked out of six more before Lesnar delivered the final blow.

Nevertheless, Femi was presented and protected as the threat he has established himself to be thanks to his efforts on NXT and Raw – indeed, why else would Lesnar want a count-out victory?

The Ruler re-establishes dominance

Femi was part of a fatal four-way in the first round of the King of the Ring tournament on Monday against Penta, Solo Sikoa, and Carmelo Hayes.

The Nigerian Nightmare didn’t waste time, taking out all his opponents whilst still doing his entrance.

Then, later in the match, Femi rose from the barricade after eating a big boot from Talla Tonga and took him out over the announce table.

He proceeded to dominate the rest of the field, lighting up Hayes with a thunderous chop, delivering a spinebuster to Penta, and finishing Sikoa with a Fall From Grace.

And just like that, Femi’s defeat to Lesnar was forgotten.

Now in the semi-finals of the tournament, he also put Lesnar on notice with an effective promo after the match.

Loss doesn’t ruin Femi

As is common in the world of pro wrestling, there’s always an overreaction when it comes to the results of certain matches and booking decisions.

That has certainly been the case with Femi, with fans claiming that the loss halted his momentum and aura whilst ruining his career going forward.

In reality, it won’t.

If we use Femi’s opponent from Sunday night as an example, Lesnar lost to Big Show in 2002 and he has gone on to have a legendary career.

The programme with Show actually led to a bigger story for Lesnar on the road to WrestleMania 19.

Femi is just 28 years old, and he’s in a major programme with a first-ballot Hall of Fame, likely leading to a match at SummerSlam.

There is an argument that he should go on to win King of the Ring and become World Heavyweight Champion at the biggest party of the summer, but then what do you do next?

Ultimately, there isn’t a need to rush – let Femi mix it up with some of the biggest names on the roster and continue to establish himself as the biggest threat.

One more win over Lesnar will do just that.
