‘We showed how good we are’: Chelsea bask in global glory after Club World Cup triumph

Chelsea didn’t just win the Club World Cup - they owned it. A commanding 3-0 victory over PSG in the final capped off a flawless campaign that has sent a clear message to the rest of Europe.

In this article, Chelsea fanatic and Sports News Blitz deputy content editor Nicole Powell reacts to the Blues' sensational triumph.

Statement performance, from back to front

“We showed how good we are,” goalkeeper Robert Sanchez said.

“We’ve improved massively since the start of the season.” His performance was calm and composed - exactly what Chelsea have lacked in recent years.

Captain Reece James admitted: “This is what I’ve dreamt of my entire life. From a little boy, lifting trophies for this club was my dream.”

The player of the tournament? No contest. Cole Palmer once again proved he belongs on the biggest stage.

“I like finals and it happened again,” he said on scoring in yet another final. His rise has been one of Chelsea’s defining stories these past two seasons.

Joao Pedro, who has slotted in seamlessly, pointed to the connection with Palmer:

“Cole [Palmer] is that player who is decisive, and he’s been very good to me from the start here at Chelsea, in such a short time.

“He’s always been able to help me in training, where we’ve been trying to understand each other better so we can work together on the field, and today [Sunday], thank God it worked in such an important match.”

Is this just the start?

Pedro Neto, another star of the tournament, made Chelsea’s ambition clear:

“I just want more and more, that's my mentality. I’m here to win titles with this club and these special team-mates, and I hope we can go on from there.”

And with Enzo Maresca’s system now fully embedded, Chelsea are no longer chasing credibility. They’ve found their identity, and it's built on belief.

Chelsea will go into the 2025/26 season riding on this confidence and ready to make a statement.
