The Sports News Blitz-sponsored Horsforth Hawks Reds rounders fell to a first defeat of the 2026 season on Monday night - but showed true grit in the second innings to keep morale high.
The Hawks went into the game with fierce rivals the Idle Red Kites having won their opening three matches (the first game by default), so confidence was high in the squad.
But the Red Kites are an experienced team and displayed some ruthless rounders in the first innings - before the Hawks Reds dug deep to make the score respectable at the end.

Horsforth Hawks Reds fell narrowly to Idle Red Kites 15.5 - 16.5 in a dramatic match that had everything 💪
A true match of two halves - the Kites dominated the first innings 13 - 5, but the Hawks came roaring back in the second, restricting Idle to just 3.5 while putting up 10.5 themselves. So close!
Liz's bowling in that second innings was the turning point, keeping the score right down when it mattered most.
With the bat, Amy and Rhiannon both top scored with 4 each, and Liz chipping in with 3.
The three of them were the last remaining batters for the final 10 balls in the second innings, and scored on every ball!
The team showed brilliant directional batting down the infamous Horsforth Hill to claw back the deficit, and Amy pulled off a great catch in the deep field to cap a superb all-round display.
Sam and Han pulled off the ultimate team work “two-fer” - a catch and a stump in one ball!
