Ryan Moore backs Lambourn in Irish Derby as World Pool returns to the Curragh

World Pool ambassador Ryan Moore is set to take the ride aboard favourite Lambourn in the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby on Irish Derby Day this Sunday, which will see the return of World Pool to Ireland following five days at Royal Ascot.

Moore has six rides on the card and believes Lambourn is a worthy favourite. Speaking in his World Pool blog, Moore said: “It was no real surprise that LAMBOURN won at Epsom having been a good winner of a trial at Chester.

“He’s an uncomplicated horse that stays very well and they all have him to beat. He’s going to have a big target on his back now, but he brings the best form to the race and is the one to beat.

“Tennessee Stud is entitled to come forward from his third at Epsom, and I’d imagine the Johnston team will have reason to believe Lazy Griff is still improving, so they are obvious dangers, but I wouldn’t swap Lambourn for anything. Puppet Master is a nice horse who we’ve always held in high regard, but Lambourn is the clear form choice in the race.”

All nine races from the Curragh will be globally commingled, with the Group 1 Irish Derby – an IFHA Top 100 race – being part of World Pool for a third successive year.

There will be seven World Pool bet types – Win, Place, Quinella, Quinella Place (Swinger), Forecast (Exacta), Tierce (Trifecta) and Treble (pick the winner in three selected races) – available to punters in over 28 countries, with the huge global pools offering unrivalled value.

Last year, Los Angeles gave master trainer Aidan O’Brien a 16th win in the historic contest, and in the process was chosen as the World Pool Moment of the Day, with groom Sumith Pathrannelage taking home the €4,000 winners’ cheque.

Once again, a World Pool Moment of the Day will be selected from the nine races on the Curragh card.

All riders on Irish Derby Day will have the opportunity to score points in the World Pool Jockeys’ Championship, with winning points determined by the World Pool Win odds.

Following Ascot, Oisin Murphy has a significant lead in the championship on 114.40 points, clear of Kieran Shoemark (63.55) and World Pool ambassador Ryan Moore (52.60).

Sam Nati, Head of Commingling at the Hong Kong Jockey Club, said: “It’s fantastic to be heading back to Ireland for a third year for Irish Derby Day, and we look forward to bringing all races from the Curragh, including the historic Irish Derby, to our global community of punters.”

Brian Kavanagh, Chief Executive of the Curragh Racecourse, said: “We are delighted to welcome World Pool back to the Curragh for Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby Day. The increased pool sizes offer great value to punters, and we look forward to competitive racing throughout the card on Sunday.”
