Wimbledon news: Jack Draper, Katie Boulter and the British players to watch at SW19 in 2025

It has been nine years since British star Andy Murray won the Gentlemen’s Singles at Wimbledon by defeating Milos Raonic in the final, while there has not been a home-town winner of the Ladies’ Singles since Virginia Wade in 1977.

There are, however, a number of talented men and women in the singles mix at SW19 this year who might just spring a surprise or two as the fortnight progresses.

Here, Sports News Blitz writer Charlie Williams evaluates Britain’s singles hopes at the upcoming tournament, which is set to begin on Monday 30 June and run until Sunday 13 July.

Jack Draper

Britain’s top contender on the men’s side of the draw is Jack Draper.

The 22-year-old from London – who lost the Boys’ Singles showpiece to Tseng Chun-hsin in 2018 – is the current world No.4, his highest-ever ranking.

Draper and his coach, James Trotman, will be seeking to improve on his best result at a Grand Slam, which was making the semi-finals of the 2024 US Open, where he lost to eventual champion Jannik Sinner.

Katie Boulter

Katie Boulter is the current British No.1 and world No.41.

She turned professional in 2013 and reached a career-high ranking of No.23 at the end of last year.

The 28-year-old has three WTA singles titles to her name: two at the grass-court Nottingham Open (2023 and 2024) and one on the hard courts of the San Diego Open (2024).

At Wimbledon, Boulter will be hoping to improve on a couple of third-round finishes in 2022 and 2023.

Cameron Norrie

Cameron Norrie spent his childhood in New Zealand but moved to England in 2011, when he was 16, to pursue a tennis career.

He first competed as a GB athlete in 2013 and is now the British No.3 and world No.61.

Over the course of his career, Norrie has won five ATP singles tournaments, with the biggest of those triumphs coming at the hard-court Indian Wells Open in 2021.

This year, Norrie will be planning to emulate his 2022 Wimbledon run, where he reached the semi-finals before being beaten in four sets by eventual champion Novak Djokovic.

Emma Raducanu

Emma Raducanu has been seen with a tennis racquet in her hand since the age of five.

In September, it will be four years since the Bromley native stunned the world by winning the 2021 US Open.

Unfortunately, the 22-year-old has struggled to achieve the same level of success since that historic win at Flushing Meadows.

On her home turf of Wimbledon, Raducanu’s best result came in 2021 and 2024, when she reached the fourth round.
