Premier League news: This season or never for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal in their quest for title glory

Arsenal and Mikel Arteta have finally found the missing pieces this season, but they cannot afford any more slip-ups if they want to win the Premier League.

The Gunners bought a top-class striker in Viktor Gyökeres, put together one of the best defensive partnerships around, and have now built up some impressive momentum as they go in search of a league crown.

Here, Sports News Blitz writer Mosaddek Abu explains why it is this year or never for the London club and their ambitious project.

Different Arsenal

The 2-2 draw against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light was the first time the Gunners had dropped points since their 1-1 stalemate with Manchester City back on September 21st.

Arteta’s side went on to win five games in a row, grinding out results in tricky fixtures against Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, and Fulham.

That was a big change from the Gunners, who often struggled to see out those types of games in the past, regularly losing ground in the title race as a consequence.

What has been evident this season is Arsenal’s determination to win and achieve results in any way possible – something we have not seen previously.

It also helps that they now have the required strength in depth and, arguably, the best squad in England.

Title awaits

Although the draw at Sunderland felt like a misstep, with the chance to extend the lead at the top of the table going begging on a weekend when City and Liverpool clashed, it was a good point on paper.

It’s the kind of gritty result they need if they want to make up for that near miss during the 2023/24 season, when City took the title on the final day.

Pep Guardiola’s City are, of course, known for going on an extended winning run when the pressure starts mounting, but there is a chance they will drop more points this term due to their reliance on Erling Haaland for goals.

City will still likely be the closest challenger to Arsenal as Liverpool still need to figure out how to integrate all their new players and get the team in sync again.

Elsewhere, Chelsea’s team is still too young, and their race is with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United for the Champions League places.

Arsenal, in contrast, have spent £263 million perfectly, upgrading their attack with the likes of Gyökeres, Eberechi Eze, and Noni Madueke.

Goalkeeper David Raya is moreover in the form of his life and the defence is amongst the best in the league if not Europe.

So, there really has never been a better chance for Arteta’s Arsenal than this season.

Ultimately, too many draws was how they lost titles before.

This time, after some brilliant summer business, it must be the year Arteta and his men finally win the Premier League.
