Premier League betting tips: Wolves to suffer at the hands of Arsenal, Igor Thiago to score, and more Gameweek 16 betting tips

What a weekend that was! The title race was blown wide open by Emiliano Buendia’s stoppage-time winner for Aston Villa against Arsenal, Mo Salah went rogue with his post-match ‘bus throwing’ comments after Liverpool’s breathless 3-3 draw with Leeds, and no arrests were made during or after my work Christmas party.

Read on for a breakdown of the best bets from the Premier League's TV games from Sports News Blitz’s punting laureate - The Bookie Basher - including Sunday’s big one between Sunderland and Newcastle United.

Burnley vs Fulham

Put simply. I need a pull-out. My own relationship with luck in recent weeks is best described as ‘restraining order-level toxic.’ Do Fulham pull me out of the brown sticky stuff here?

Turf Moor has not exactly been a fortress for Burnley this season, who’ve taken just seven points from seven matches on their own patch (with a goal difference of -2).

That said, their last defeat to the Cottagers at home was back in April 1951, a simpler time when smoking was considered cool, we built buildings using asbestos, and people shared their bathwater.

However, with Harry Wilson - who put four past Man City the other week - in decent form for the visitors, Fulham look the wager here.

Suggested bet: Fulham to win & Under 4.5 goals at 5/4 (betway / Coral / Ladbrokes)

Arsenal vs Wolves

This could get ugly. Arsenal are top. Wolves are terrible.

The Old Gold suffered an eighth-straight loss after that 4-1 defeat to Manchester United, and I am reliably informed it has been 220+ days, three bosses, two sporting directors of questionable ability, one technical director and 41 goals shipped since Wolves last won in the Premier League.

Probably the last thing they need right now is a trip to Arsenal, but it’s happening.

The Gunners are averaging 1.87 goals a game in the Premier League this term, with Wolves’ just 0.53 for the same metric.

1/7 won’t appeal to most punters, but the chances of Arsenal winning here are akin to Monday following Sunday.

The goals have been spread around for the Gunners, with no Arsenal player scoring more than four in the league so far (for some context, Erling Haaland leads the Premier League scoring charts with 15).

Eberechi Eze could be the key to profit on Saturday night. The man radiates hungry-wolf energy and has been sensational for Arsenal so far this season.

11/2 to score first? Take my money.

Suggested bet: Eze to score first at 11/2 (bet365)

Sunderland vs Newcastle United

I once asked a Mackem if they had heard about that lorry full of terrapins that rolled over on the A19?

"Aye mate, it was a turtle disaster." I’ll get me coat, but not before saying Sunderland look a hot price here at 5/2.

How can Newcastle be 13/10 or shorter?

Look, I can take the rising petrol prices. I can take the horrific gas bills. I can even - in moderation - take being billed £7 for iced lattes. But there’s something about Newcastle’s price here that makes me want to riot.

The Black Cats are unbeaten in seven at home (four wins, three draws) while the Toon have claimed just six points from their seven away assignments so far.

It’s a derby, of course, so anything could happen, but on what we have seen so far this season, Sunderland look a right price.

Suggested bet: Sunderland to win at 5/2 (BetMGM)

Brentford vs Leeds United

This absolutely stinks of Igor Thiago notching! He is 7/5 to score anytime with bet365, but odds on for the same bet with plenty of firms.

11 goals in 15 Premier League games so far. What a player.

Leeds have been playing some decent stuff in recent weeks, but they still look fragile at the back.

In the immortal words of big Sigmund Freud, “Dreams are often most profound when they seem the most crazy.”

Suggested bet: Thiago to score anytime at 7/5 (bet365)
