Premier League betting tips: Viktor Gyokeres to score against Chelsea, Leeds Utd to beat Man City and more Gameweek 28 betting tips
Slack 5/2 winner for the column in the north London derby last week, and we were a goal away from an 11/1 touch in the Manchester City vs Newcastle game. Alas, when it comes to punting, if you ain't a winner, you’re a loser.
Hope springs eternal of course and I fully subscribe to the view you're either hot, or you're due, and I’m due, so read on for a breakdown of the best bets from this weekend’s Premier League TV games from Sports News Blitz’s punting laureate - The Bookie Basher - including a massive clash in the capital between Arsenal and Chelsea on Sunday, March 1.
Wolves vs Aston Villa
If Peter Mandelson's having a bad time of it lately, then so are Wolves. Rock bottom and going down.
I’m not even sure if ‘The Prince of Darkness’ even reads this column, but if he does, Labour’s one-time chief political fixer would surely concur that Aston Villa are the bet here.
They have won three of their last four Premier League games against Wolves, and can bounce back after that disappointing draw at home to Leeds last time out.
Wolves have played 14 Premier League games at home and claimed just six points, with a goal difference of -17.
Wolves are - how do you say it - total dogsh*t.
Suggested bet: Aston Villa to win and Under 4.5 goals at 5/4 (Betway/Sky Bet)
Bournemouth vs Sunderland
The Black Cats have lost three on the bounce in the league, but that run included games against Liverpool and Arsenal.
Sunderland were poor at home to Fulham on Sunday, February 22, but should be bolstered by the return of talisman Granit Xhaka, whose absence has been keenly felt on Wearside.
Bournemouth are unbeaten in seven in the league, and the Cherries are favourites, but 5/6 looks short, and there are enough intangibles to make this pick far from straightforward.
Suggested bet: Draw at 14/5 (BetMGM)
Leeds United vs Manchester City
Tough gig this for the Cityzens. Since the start of December, Leeds have drawn more games than any other Premier League side (eight), with the Yorkshire giants going 1-0 up in three of their last four draws (which all ended 1-1).
Daniel Farke's men have actually only lost two of their last 16 matches, while Manchester City have won seven of their last eight. In truth, Pep’s mob didn’t look great in that 2-1 win over Newcastle, and Leeds at 4/1 looks like a value pick here. Cuff me.
Suggested bet: Leeds United to win at 4/1 (General)
Manchester United vs Crystal Palace
The Red Devils are flying, and in truth, Palace offered precious little when shambling to a last-gasp win over Wolves last time out.
Perhaps it is time to let Oliver Glasner leave with a bit of dignity? It's all become a bit toxic in South London, and Glasner has been warned that his critical comments about his own club and the fans while Eagles boss could put potential suitors off appointing him as their new manager in the summer.
In contrast, Michael Carrick can do no wrong. I’ve stopped checking the Red Devils’ lineup and now just assume it’s art.
The away win is 9/2 here, but as far as betting is concerned, if you back Palace, you’re essentially paying for your bookmaker’s next holiday to the Caribbean.
Suggested bet: Manchester United to win 3-0 at 12/1 (bet365)

Arsenal vs Chelsea
The Gunners have lost just once at home in the league all season and are fancied to claim maximum points here.
Chelsea are still right in the mix for a top-five finish, but Liam Rosenior’s side are inconsistent, and so it’s difficult to look past the home win.
Mikel Arteta’s men rightly took a bit of criticism after those draws against Brentford and Wolves, but the way they dismantled Spurs last time out suggests that Arsenal are bang in the mood for a title fight that might go down to the wire.
Viktor Gyokeres weighed in with his finest display since arriving in the summer against Tottenham last week, scoring a brace and looking double lively up top. The Swede is 9/2 to score first, and that’s a bet I can get with.
Suggested bet: Gyokeres to score first at 9/2 (bet365/Betway/Sky Bet)
