Premier League betting tips: Merseyside red cards, Arsenal glory, Man Utd stuck in a World War II time warp, and more

A slack 9/1 winner last week from the last outlaw of sports betting. How tasty are some of this weekend’s fixtures, by the way?

I'm off to Spain on Saturday. I always like to give a bit back, so will be teaching the locals to speak English by shouting very loudly at them.

Read on - por favor - for a breakdown of the best bets from the Premier League's TV games from Sports News Blitz’s generational wordsmith, the Bookie Basher, including the Merseyside derby on Saturday and the small matter of Arsenal against Manchester City a day later.

Liverpool vs Everton

Liverpool have lost just one of their last 28 home games against Everton in all competitions, so 4/9 looks about right here.

Late goals have characterised the Reds’ winning start to this season, and the first Merseyside derby of the season is another big test for Arne and the boys.

David Moyes' strollers are currently sixth in the table and with Jack Grealish pulling the strings in midfield, will fancy themselves to cause major issues for their eternal rivals, who are the only team with a perfect record in the English topflight.

Everton vs Liverpool has seen more red cards than any other fixture in Premier League history (25), with 11 of those being for David Moyes’ Toffees in 24 games across his two spells in charge. 5/1 there is a red on Saturday? Take my money...

Suggested bet: Red card in the match - Yes at 5/1 (skybet)

Manchester United vs Chelsea

With just four points from four games (W1 D1 L2), this is officially Manchester United’s poorest start to a league season since 1992/93, when they also had four points from their opening four matches under Sir Alex.

Ruben Amorim needs a result here. Are his players up to the task?

Amorim's win percentage is the worst of any permanent Manchester United manager since World War II. It’s absolutely nuts how bad they are currently.

The sandy chinos are a thing of rare beauty, but he’s second fav (5/2) behind Graham Potter (evens) to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job.

The good news for beleaguered United fans? The Red Devils are unbeaten in their last 12 Premier League home games against Chelsea.

However, they look short here even at odds of 19/10, and instead I'm h**ny for a bet builder.

Moises Caicedo is a colossus and the only Premier League player with both 10+ tackles (16) and 10+ interceptions (12) so far this season.

Whisper it quietly, but he might be the best defensive midfielder in the world, you know.

Suggested bet: Bet Builder - Caicedo over 2.5 tackles / Fernandez to be booked / Chelsea to win at 14/1 (bet365)

Fulham vs Brentford

Let’s not overthink this. Brentford are winless in their last three away Premier League games, while Fulham completed a Premier League double over Brentford last season.

The Cottagers are available at even money. In the words of Tom Skinner - the only person I know who eats pie, chips and gravy at 5am - “Bosh!"

Don't go home until you're proud.

Suggested bet: Fulham to win at evens (General)

Sunderland vs Aston Villa

Aston Villa have made a naughty start to the campaign. Four games in and the Villains haven’t scored a Premier League goal yet.

In contrast, Sunderland have made a flying start and currently sit above Manchester City in seventh place.

The Black Cats have looked strong at the Stadium of Light too, and 9/1 that the Mackems win this 1-0 looks worth a go.

Suggested bet: Sunderland to win 1-0 at 9/1 (bet365 / Betfred / Boylesports)

Arsenal vs Manchester City

Huge game in north London on Sunday, and preference here is for the Gunners, who are playing with real confidence.

Arsenal are in great shape, with strong defensive performances and clinical finishing reminiscent of the glory years under George Graham (minus the heavy boozing and legal woes).

They have won their last three Premier League home games by an aggregate score of 9-0. Arsenal have the edge here if - as is likely - they can exploit Man City's defensive vulnerabilities.

If anyone is still on the fence re where to bet, consider also that Arsenal go into the game with two days extra rest compared to their opponents.

Suggested bet: Arsenal to win and under 4.5 goals at 11/8 (betway)
