Premier League betting tips: Liverpool to beat omnishambles Chelsea, Viktor Gyokeres to score, and more Gameweek 36 betting tips

Productive Bank Holiday weekend? No, me neither.

You know the problem with modern living? Everyone’s thriving, aren’t they?

A lad who was in my year at school bought a Lamborghini a few weeks ago. A f***ing Lambo! On the same weekend, I bought a plant, and it later died of what I can only assume was disappointment.

To business, then. Read on for a breakdown of the best bets from this weekend’s Premier League TV games from Sports News Blitz’s punting laureate - The Bookie Basher - including the big ‘un between West Ham and Arsenal on Sunday, May 10.

Liverpool vs Chelsea

"Omnishambles” is a British informal term for a situation characterised by total mismanagement, chaos, and blunders from every possible perspective. See also, Chelsea Football Club.

Since the current ownership took control in 2022, Chelsea have spent around £1.5bn on players, focusing on securing a raft of younger talent on long-term contracts.

At the time of writing, they are ninth in the Premier League and look absolutely rudderless.

Monday's rancid 3-1 defeat by second-string Nottingham Forest means the Blues can no longer finish fifth - and are highly unlikely to meet their minimum pre-season aim of qualifying for the Champions League.

Chelsea have conceded the first goal of the game in each of their last six away games and remain one of the league’s least reliable propositions on current form.

The Reds - for all their own inconsistencies this season - are an absolute steering job here and win this on the snaff.

Suggested bet: Liverpool to win & under 4.5 goals at 8/5 (betway / Coral / Ladbrokes)

Manchester City vs Brentford

Will that chaotic 13-minute spell at Everton on Bank Holiday Monday prove to be Manchester City’s undoing in the Premier League title race?

While they somehow managed to salvage a point, when the smoke cleared, it all meant the destiny of the Premier League is back entirely in Arsenal’s hands again.

The Cityzens have dropped 17 points from winning positions this season, and you feel it is going to cost them the title.

Brentford are a huge potential banana skin for Pep Guardiola and co here. They lost at Old Trafford the other week, but nobody quite knows how, and last time out they blew West Ham away 3-0.

This is going to be far closer than the bookies feel it might be, and 3/1 about Man City winning by one goal looks a play.

Suggested bet: Manchester City to win by exactly one goal at 3/1 (bet365 / Boylesports / skybet)

Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle United

There’s not been much love for Eddie Howe by Toon fans in recent months, but despite this, the word around the campfire is the Howe-Meister General will get the chance to lead Newcastle’s biggest rebuild since the 2021 takeover, with significant change expected on Tyneside this summer.

That rebuild will define his legacy, of course, as there are plenty of fans who feel he has taken the club as far as he can.

A few of my Geordie mates in the WhatsApp group chats thought he’d gone mad on Saturday with his team selection against Brighton, but Eddie had the last laugh as the Toon won that one.

This should be entertaining - not unlike two elderly uncles fighting over the last bit of cheese and tomato quiche at a wake - but my hunch is Forest are too hot for the Mags at the moment and will pull further clear of the drop zone with a win.

If you are having a bet, please hang fire and see if Morgan Gibbs-White is in the mix.

The midfielder has scored 13 goals in 35 Premier League games this term, with seven of those strikes coming since the start of March, and if he is fit, he could be the man to hurt Newcastle.

Suggested bet: Nottingham Forest to win at 8/5 (bet365 / Hills / Paddy Power)

West Ham United vs Arsenal

West Ham are unbeaten in their last six home games in the Premier League, but I'm not sure they have enough quality to keep a buzzing Arsenal at bay. As my old nana used to say, “Never wear flip flops to a street fight.”

Things are looking up for Arsenal. Champions League final place booked, and the destiny of the league title is now back in their own hands.

Bukayo Saka has come back and hit the ground running, and Viktor Gyokeres was in complete flow state against Atletico Madrid the other night.

He was absolutely unplayable, and I’m having a nice few quid on him scoring first against a West Ham defence that shipped three against Brentford last time out.

9/2 for the nifty Swede to score first? Mmmmm. Now cook me that filet mignon and fetch me that top-tier Burgundy...

Suggested bet: Viktor Gyokeres to score first at 9/2 (bet365)
