Padel news: Britain and America poised for big arrival on world stage ahead of inaugural Anglo American Padel Cup
The UK’s most significant padel moment yet finally arrives, as London prepares to host two of the world’s most storied sporting nations for transatlantic padel triumph.
64 of Britain and America’s elite players are set to compete across Open and Age Group categories as Anglo American Padel Cup follows in the footsteps of the historic British and American sports rivalry.
Looking ahead
The 174-year-old sporting rivalry between Great Britain and the United States enters its next phase in London tomorrow, as 64 of the countries’ best players prepare to compete in the inaugural Anglo American Padel Cup.
The competition will take place on October 10-11 at The Padel Hub North London with a format designed to bring together elite players across Open and Age Group categories.
The Opening Ceremony kicks off the proceedings at 09.00 on Friday (October 10), with world-class operatic tenor Alexander Wall leading the national anthems.
Play will then commence at 10am, with the Open Division players kicking off the event in what is certain to be four action packed matches.
On Saturday, play will commence at 09:30 with featured matches leading the Cup to its conclusion from 15:30 before the Awards Ceremony concludes proceedings at 19:30.

“The moment has finally arrived for the next iteration of this famous transatlantic sporting rivalry,” said Bill Ullman, Joelle Quinn and Ben Nichols, co-founders of the Anglo American Padel Cup.
“This event is about more than competition, it's about community and connection, and the continuation of a sporting legacy that has existed between our two nations for 174 years. It is now padel’s time,” they added.
“We look forward to welcoming many of Britain’s and America’s elite padel players to London to compete in what is the most significant padel tournament to ever be staged in the UK, and to welcoming spectators and fans of our great sport to join in this historic occasion.
“With Playtomic’s and Babolat’s support, we’re creating an event that reflects the best of these two fast-emerging padel nations, and the bright future we all see for padel. Let the competition begin!”
The Cup debuts in London at the perfect time, with padel encountering rapid recreational growth in both nations.
In the UK, there are now over 1500 courts (up from 750 at the start of the year) and over 50,000 new players taking to the court every month.
While the U.S. has now surged past 700 courts (up from just 300 last year), according to data compiled by Playtomic, the world’s leading racquet sports technology company and the Cup’s co-title partner alongside Babolat.
