NBA’s Latest Innovations Will Boost the Global Profile of the Sport

The National Basketball Association (NBA) has launched an all-new NBA App and the reimagined NBA TV, which will offer non-stop basketball content to ensure fans keep up with all the action.

The idea is to build what the league has called the ‘global home of basketball’, which will be available 24/7 for fans to watch live games, programming, highlights and original content.

The new multi-platform streaming will be available to basketball fans in the United Kingdom, New Zealand and countries across the world.

A Global Hub for Basketball

The relaunch of the NBA App and NBA TV is part of the league’s long-term plan to streamline how fans engage with basketball content.

They are moving away from regular broadcasting and tapping into a hybrid digital model that offers global accessibility, on-demand experiences and multi-platform engagement.

The NBA App and NBA TV offer an ‘always-on’ basketball network that delivers non-stop content to fans on a regular basis.

This was confirmed by NBA senior vice president, Sara Zuckert, who made it clear that the ‘NBA TV and the NBA App are designed to be a connected, global hub for basketball coverage’.

She also confirmed that it will deliver ‘exclusive behind-the-scenes content’ and an ‘always-on digital experience for fans to access 24 hours a day, 365 days a year’.

NBA TV will broadcast 60 regular-season games this season and will kick things off when reigning champions Oklahoma City Thunder visit Atlanta Hawks on October 25.

The app will also host a plethora of live and on-demand games from around the world, including the WNBA, NBA G League, Basketball Africa League, Australia’s NBL and France’s LNB.

How the Innovations Will Impact Betting in New Zealand

Basketball fans in New Zealand are among those who will greatly benefit from the new NBA App and NBA TV.

Through the NBA’s revamped digital system, Kiwi fans will be able to watch their home-grown star, Steve Adams, who plays for the Houston Rockets.

Kiwi bettors will be able to following his every action in real time, which will tempt them to back their compatriot on betting platforms across the country.

New Zealanders have a strong understanding of how NBA betting works, and being able to track Adams' performances on the app or NBA TV will spark a massive surge in player-focused wagers.

Sports betting is legal in New Zealand, and basketball is becoming increasingly popular there, so many punters will want to place wagers on Adams.

New Zealand has a strict sports betting policy. While gambling winnings are generally tax-free for recreational players, professional gamblers may need to report their earnings.

However, that won’t deter Kiwi punters from taking full advantage of the NBA App and NBA TV, which will boost basketball betting engagement across New Zealand.

The Association

The latest development also comes with a new weeknight programme called ‘The Association’.

It will be anchored by a primetime basketball cast featuring MJ Acosta-Ruiz, David Fizdale, Rudy Gay, Chris Haynes, John Wall and other contributors.

The Association will launch as the flagship programme on the new NBA App and NBA TV. Rather than merely breaking down box scores, it will celebrate the game, players and stories that make the NBA the cultural force it is today.

The Association will be the centrepiece of the new NBA TV, informing and entertaining viewers with a handful of items on the agenda, such as league news, analysis and storylines.

It will bring humour, insight and authenticity to the basketball conversation and also suggest some of the games fans cannot afford to miss across the league.

It will operate similarly to many of the successful sports talk podcasts that have managed to keep basketball fans worldwide locked in.

Bringing Local & International Stars on a Single Platform

Bringing basketball leagues around the world under one umbrella is the NBA App's biggest flex.

Aside from the more prominent competitions in the United States, fans can now watch the G League, BAL, and even high school competitions under the ‘Future Starts Now’ banner.

Future Starts Now will give fans unrestricted access to some of the best high school basketball tournaments and prospects in the United States.

Basketball enthusiasts will get a glimpse of future NBA talent and follow their journey from their teenage years to the professional level.

Australia and New Zealand fans will also be able to enjoy NBL games on the same app they use to follow the NBA. The NBL's production standards have improved significantly since the league signed a multi-year partnership with Sportradar.

Sportradar is looking to enhance the value of official data by using its artificial intelligence-powered data analysis and immersive visual features to deliver innovative solutions that bring fans closer to the action.

The new NBA TV is designed as a streaming-first experience. It is accessible through the NBA App and available across several digital devices.
