NBA news: How LeBron James continues to inspire in his 23rd season
Even after 22 seasons at the highest level of basketball, LeBron James remains one of the most admired and respected figures in the NBA.
As he enters his 23rd season, the Los Angeles Lakers star continues to defy the physical and mental limits that typically define the careers of professional athletes.
For younger players like Tyrese Maxey, working out alongside James is more than just training - it is a front-row seat to greatness.
Here, Sports News Blitz’s NBA expert Noah Ngcobo reflects on the impact the basketball veteran has had on the game, and young players like Maxey.
Maxey reflects on LeBron’s enduring passion
Tyrese Maxey, the Philadelphia 76ers guard and recent NBA All-Star, has been training with LeBron James for years.
Their shared representation under Rich Paul and Klutch Sports Group has allowed for a strong relationship to form, but it is LeBron’s unwavering commitment that continues to impress Maxey the most.
Maxey highlighted James’ relentless enthusiasm for the game, something he finds inspiring.
“He’s going on Year 23 and he was working out and talking and involved like it was probably Year five for him,” Maxey said.
“That’s amazing to see. Anybody who’s able to watch him, not just work out but play, should feel honoured.”
Maxey, who is now 24 years old and emerging as one of the league’s top young guards, has had numerous opportunities to train alongside James.
Despite having worked out with him several times, Maxey still finds the experience surreal.
“I don’t know how many times I’ve worked out with him now. That’s crazy to say. I guess that’s how I know I’m getting a little old,” he joked.
“But it’s good work. He does a good job of talking, being vocal, and helping. I’m very appreciative of him. He’s done a lot.”

The oldest player in the league still leads by example
At 40 years old, LeBron James is not just the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, but also its oldest active player.
He will turn 41 in December, but he remains committed to staying in top shape and competing at an elite level.
His preparation is no less intense than it was in the early years of his career, something that has left a lasting impression on those around him.
Maxey, who averaged over 25 points per game over the last two seasons and is now a key figure for the 76ers, views these off-season workouts as both an opportunity to grow and a chance to learn.
The Sixers guard has taken on more responsibility amid injury concerns surrounding team-mates Joel Embiid and Paul George, and training with James has become a critical part of his summer regimen.
“LeBron’s passion is just different,” Maxey said. “He still wants it. He still prepares like he’s chasing something.”
A new era taking shape in Los Angeles
While LeBron James continues to put in the work, the Lakers organisation appears to be looking toward the future.
Luka Doncic, another Klutch Sports client and a current team-mate of James, is widely seen as the centrepiece of the franchise’s long-term plans.
Reports suggest that James is supportive of the Lakers shifting their focus to building around Doncic as he prepares for the final chapter of his own legendary career.
James is entering the last year of his contract, worth $52.6 million, and it remains uncertain whether he will return after the season concludes.
With four MVPs, four championships, and a legacy that will forever shape basketball history, LeBron has little left to prove. Still, his hunger for the game remains.

Maxey and the torch of greatness
As Maxey continues to rise, his interactions with James have become more than just learning moments. They are symbolic of the passing of the torch.
Maxey has always been passionate about basketball, but seeing LeBron’s energy up close has given him new motivation.
“I love basketball, I always have. But seeing him do this in Year 23 with that level of drive, it makes me want to go even harder,” Maxey said.
For young players across the league, LeBron’s example is a reminder of what it truly takes to be great.
His preparation, his leadership, and his ability to uplift others continue to resonate.
While the end of his career may be near, his impact on the next generation is just beginning.
Cherishing the final chapters
If the 2025 season does turn out to be LeBron James’ last, it will mark the end of one of the most remarkable runs in sports history.
For now, though, he is still putting in the work, still mentoring, and still making an impression that will last long after his final game.
Tyrese Maxey, and others who have been fortunate enough to train with him, understand the privilege.
“It’s amazing,” Maxey said simply. “You just have to appreciate it while it’s here.”
