Mr Vango tops William Hill Becher betting
Following the five-day confirmation stage for Aintree’s William Hill Becher Chase, the first William Hill Half A Mill bonus race, 19 horses have been confirmed for the prestigious contest over the Randox Grand National fences, with Mr Vango heading the market as the 6/1 favourite with William Hill.
Gaboriot is the 8/1 second favourite for Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerreiro ahead of Dan Skelton’s Galia des Liteaux at 9/1, whilst William Hill ambassador Gavin Cromwell’s Bioluminescence is next in at 10/1. White Rhino is also a 10/1 shot, joint with Tanganyika for Venetia Williams and Bill Baxter for Warren Greatrex.
As the first race of the William Hill Half A Mill series, the winner of Saturday’s Aintree feature will be in line for a £500,000 bonus should they go on to land the Randox Grand National in April.
Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “19 runners have been confirmed for the William Hill Becher Chase, the first William Hill Half A Mill race of the season. Mr Vango heads the betting at 6/1 for Sara Bradstock, the progressive chaser was unlucky to be balloted out of the 2025 Randox Grand National but holds strong claims to book his ticket into the 2026 renewal, with a potential £500,000 bonus on offer.
“Gaboriot is next in the betting; he’s the 8/1 second favourite for Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerreiro, and with how prolific the Skelton team have been in premier handicaps so far this season, Galia des Liteaux cannot be ignored at 9/1.
“It would be remiss of us to write Venetia Williams off, with Tanganyika installed at 10/1. That said, you can’t have Randox Grand National talk without mention of JP McManus.
“The leading owner is solely represented by Bioluminescence (10/1), who is trained by William Hill ambassador Gavin Cromwell. If she does prevail on Saturday, she would be a front runner for the £500,000 bonus come April.
“The Greenall and Guerreiro team hold a good hand with another runner prominent in the market; White Rhino is joint at 10/1 with Bill Baxter, a winner over the National fences in the 2023 Topham Handicap.
“Nicky Henderson is doubly represented by Excello (12/1) and Mister Coffey (16/1), while Westerninthepark is in for Olly Murphy at 12/1 alongside Monbeg Genius for Jonjo and A J O’Neill.
“With several other runners close behind in the betting, it’s a very competitive renewal and it’ll be fascinating to see who can put themselves in line for the eyewatering £500,000 bonus.”
