Leeds Utd news: The standout players of the season so far

Leeds United are looking to finish strong after their promotion to the Premier League and win the title.

Sports News Blitz writer, Elliot Ward, looks at which players he thinks have been the standouts this season for Leeds United.

5. Joe Rodon

Joe Rodon has been crucial to Leeds’ promotion this season, being a rock at the back, and playing a huge part in the club’s 25 clean sheets in this campaign.

Rodon was bought for 11 million pounds from Tottenham following a great loan to Leeds in the 2023/2024 campaign.

The decision to sign him permanently has been a great one, as he's been one of our best players this season quickly becoming a fan favourite.

4. Ao Tanaka

Ao Tanaka has been arguably the signing of the season, not just for Leeds but the whole EFL Championship.

Tanaka has rapidly become the best defensive-minded midfielder in the Championship this season, recording huge numbers in passes made and accuracy this season.

He is a player who rarely gives the ball away and has been a real anchor in Leeds’ promotion hopes this year.

3. Manor Solomon

Manor Solomon has been incredible in his loan spell at Leeds’ from Tottenham.

The winger has picked up 20 goal contributions, playing a crucial role in sealing Leeds’ promotion.

2. Jayden Bogle

Jayden Bogle arrived at Leeds United in the summer for just five million pounds from Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United.

It was a transfer that caused a lot of concern and excitement.

The concern was his defensive capability, while the excitement stemmed from his forward thinking…a style of football Leeds’ like to play.

Bogle has been instrumental for Leeds this season, quickly establishing himself as the best full-back in the league who is not shy of going forward, recording an incredible 10-goal contributions from right-back.

1. Daniel James

Daniel James is by far Leeds United’s top performer this season, reaching an incredible 21-goal contributions.

James’ biggest strengths are his speed and dribbling.

In the previous campaign, he was often criticised for his finishing ability. However this season, 90% of the time, James finds the back of the net.

Without him this season would Leeds be promoted?

In my opinion, I don’t think Leeds would have been promoted automatically without James’ contributions this season.

For that reason, he is my player of the year and will be most Leeds fans' player of the year.

The five players selected are all good enough for the Premier League, and will most likely be cemented into the Leeds squad going forward whereas most other positions on the pitch will need replacing.
