IPL Cricket news: The top five fastest centuries in the history of the Indian Premier League
In the wake of 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s jaw-dropping 35-ball century, the cricketing world is still buzzing.
Sports News Blitz writer Dejan Johal looks back at the top five fastest centuries in IPL history that have left fans stunned over the years.
Travis Head vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) 2024
In a game that saw RCB win the toss and bowl against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Australian opener Travis Head stole the show at the Chinnaswamy.
He belted the RCB bowling attack to all parts of the ground on his way to a century of just 39 deliveries, which included nine fours and eight sixes at a strike rate of nearly 250.
Head was eventually dismissed shortly after his hundred, however, he decimated the bowling, along with the help of others as SRH posted the highest score in IPL history of 287.
He was named player of the match and continued to have a wonderful season, posting a 567-run season, which led to SRH making the final of IPL 2024.
David Miller vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru 2013
In one of the most miraculous turnarounds to a game of cricket, South Africa’s David Miller single-handedly carried the Punjab Kings to victory against RCB in 2013.
After RCB posted 190 runs in their 20 overs, thanks to contributions from Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers, Punjab knew they faced an uphill battle to chase this score down.
This proved to be the case as they found themselves 51 for three when Miller walked out to bat.
As he started to get going, the run rate was still seen as far too much, as they still needed 80 off of the last six overs.
Despite the setbacks, Miller continued to bludgeon the RCB bowling and managed to chase down the total by the 18th over.
He finished the game with a monstrous straight six to bring up his century off of just 38 deliveries.
Miller hit eight fours and seven sixes, at a strike rate of 265.79, and scored 101 of the 194 runs that Punjab scored to chase down the total and claim victory.

Yusuf Pathan vs Mumbai Indians (MI) 2010
In an innings that has gone down in IPL folklore and is still talked about to this day, Indian all-rounder Yusuf Pathan almost pulled off a miracle against the Mumbai Indians on March 13, 2010.
Batting first, the Mumbai Indians posted a large total of 212 in their 20 overs.
This meant that the Rajasthan Royals (RR) needed to score over 10 runs an over to have any chance of getting close to the target.
The Royals struggled to keep up with the run rate, with the top order all scoring at just over a 100 strike rate, meaning they weren’t getting close until Pathan walked in at number five.
Pathan smashed a century in just 37 balls at a strike rate of 270 to keep his team alive before he was unfortunately run out leading to the Royals losing the match.
Despite losing by just four runs, Pathan was named player of the match for an unforgettable knock which almost carried the Royals to victory from almost certain defeat.
Vaibhav Suryanvanshi vs Gujarat Titans (GT) 2025
In one of the most dramatic and incredible stories in the history of the IPL, the most recent centurion in IPL history takes the number two spot in this list.
After the Gujarat Titans posted 209 runs in their 20 overs, not many people expected the Rajasthan Royals to chase this total down.
They had struggled with the bat throughout the season and were missing captain Sanju Samson due to injury.
However, nobody could’ve expected what was to come next, as the Royals chased this score down inside 16 overs.
Despite Yashasvi Jaiswal remaining not out on 70, all the headlines were stolen by one man.
14-year-old Vaibhav Suryanvanshi smashed an incredible and memorable century off just 35 deliveries, meaning this is the fastest Indian century in IPL history.
Scoring at a strike rate of above 265, as well as scoring a century in T20 cricket is already highly impressive.
However, for this to be achieved by a 14-year-old in his first IPL season against international cricketers makes this one of the most spectacular and beautiful stories in the history of the IPL.

Chris Gayle vs Pune Warriors (PW) 2013
And finally, the fastest century in IPL history could only belong to one man, ‘The Universe Boss.’
One of the true pillars of the IPL, and the man who made the IPL well and truly a ‘must-see’ when he was batting.
After arriving as a late buy for RCB in the 2011 edition of the IPL, Chris Gayle came into RCB and straight away became an IPL star.
He scored over 600 runs in his first season and then 700 runs the following season in 2012.
High expectations were set for Gayle’s third season in 2013, and once again he delivered with another 700-run season.
The pick of Gayle’s performances this season was his jaw-dropping performance against the Pune Warriors, where he hammered a century off just 30 deliveries at a strike rate of over 330.
Gayle finished the innings not out on 175, the highest score in IPL history as well, with RCB posting 263 and comfortably winning the match by 130 runs.
The number one spot could only be reserved for someone with the stature of Chris Gayle, and it will take an almighty effort from anyone to break or even come close to this record, but not impossible.
