La Liga analysis: Boos, bust-ups and backlash – Real Madrid drama deepens

This season has proved a difficult period for Real Madrid and it only seems to be getting worse, with Madrid fans recently booing star player Kylian Mbappé.

That comes after a training ground bust-up between two other players left the club in a crisis.

Here, Sports News Blitz writer Dejan Johal looks at a traumatic last few months for Madrid and considers what the future may hold.

How Mbappé’s dream move became a nightmare

Real Madrid are the biggest and most successful club in the history of the sport, the 15-time European champions enjoying unparalleled success across many generations.

However, it feels like the squad is in a serious crisis after going trophyless for the second season in a row.

Things seemed to come to a head in the aftermath of their 2-0 victory over Real Oviedo, with one man at the forefront taking all the headlines.

When Kylian Mbappé arrived at Real Madrid, expectations were through the roof as many felt his addition was going to add to Los Blancos’ dominance and create a dynasty.

Instead, his relationship with the Madrid fans has rapidly deteriorated, so much so that he was booed by the fans after being subbed on against Oviedo.

Despite scoring over 40 goals this season, such a reaction has been brewing for months as many Madrid fans have come to question his commitment – with recent images emerging of the Frenchman enjoying a vacation in Sardinia while supposedly recovering from an injury.

Indeed, his relationship with the fans has become so bad that a petition calling for his departure has reached close to 70 million signatures.

Mbappé is not the first player to be booed by the fans, though, as Madridistas expect excellence alongside trophies and will not accept two back-to-back trophyless seasons.

Training ground bust-up

The situation at Madrid has now gotten so bad that the tension has made its way on to the training ground.

On May 7, it was reported that an altercation occurred during training between Aurélien Tchouaméni and Federico Valverde, one which knocked Valverde out and sent him to the hospital.

After various media reports came out, Madrid fans were very vocal online about the current state of their club.

The two players were fined close to €500,000, but it is looking increasingly unlikely that both will be Madrid players next season.

It is a situation that clearly reflects the turmoil the club currently finds itself in.

What does the future hold for Los Blancos?

Given everything that has happened over the last couple of months, there is only one question on people’s minds: “Where does the club go next?”

Keep in mind, they don’t have a manager announced for next season yet as Álvaro Arbeloa will be leaving at the end of this campaign.

With the relationship between the players, the board, and the fans potentially at an all-time low, who is going to want to climb Mount Everest and handle the pressure of managing that club?

There has been a lot of speculation that the next manager could be José Mourinho as his contract offer from Benfica is currently on hold.

It would be an incredible reunion for the ‘Special One’ to go back to Madrid – however, it would also be very interesting to see how he manages big names and personalities such as Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior.

One thing is for sure though: If Real Madrid want to go back to being a seriously dominant force, they must have a serious reset in the summer and move past this turbulent and traumatic season.
