ITV horse racing tips and best bets for York, Sandown and Chester on Saturday, June 13

Royal Ascot is just around the corner and Sports News Blitz racing tipster Jeff Mexico has spent all week looking for a new frock and hat.

Luckily, Farm Foods does an amazing range of clothing (it’s somewhere near the back by the spoon meats), and Jeff is now all kitted out for a busy week in Royal Berkshire.

He’s hoping to get an invite to the Royal Procession or even better be interviewed by Raceday TV about his stunning outfit – his black bin bag ensemble and potato sack fascinator will go down a storm no doubt.

Jeff Mexico’s racing tips

This week, Shakira Shakira (yes, she should always be said twice) was on hand again to help open another World Cup ceremony after doing the same in South Africa in 2010.

It cast my mind back to that glorious time when Shakira Shakira and I had a passionate affair just before that tournament began.

Shakira Shakira won’t remember it as global superstars can’t remember what they did last week, let alone 16 years ago, but I still carry the scars of three steamy weeks staying at her Colombian villa.

Hips do lie. They cost a fortune to replace and I still struggle to get up the stairs.

13:35 (Chester) – The Saturday Social Handicap

Win tip: Bolo Neighs

Arrives after a convincing Ascot handicap success and remains relatively lightly raced for a four-year-old sprinter. Drawn in stall three, he should be able to secure a prominent early position. Previous wins have come over 6f on soft ground, and he has shown versatility regarding underfoot conditions.

Each-way tip: Miraculous

Previous course-and-distance winner, which counts for plenty at Chester’s unique configuration. His last couple of runs came on straight tracks where he never looked entirely comfortable. Returning to Chester could spark a revival.

13:50 (York) – The Queen Mother’s Cup Handicap

Win tip: Chillingham

Won the Queen Mother’s Cup 12 months ago under Becky Smith, who is reunited with him here. York is expected to ride good-to-firm and Chillingham’s best recent efforts have come on quicker surfaces over this sort of trip. The return to 1m4f at York looks much more suitable.

Each-way tip: No Knee Never

Unlike several of the exposed older runners, No Knee Never arrives with recent form figures that suggest a horse still improving and running consistently well. A lightly weighted improver can be very dangerous against older horses carrying 10st-plus.

14:10 (Chester) – The Ladbrokes Get More With Racing Bet Builder Handicap

Win tip: Comic Hero

Has the most convincing upward trajectory among the main contenders. Profile suggests he travels strongly, can sustain effort, and is not just a 6f speed horse stretched out.

Each-way tip: Penny Time

Has already shown he can hold his own in deep fields. Looks more ‘race-savvy’ than rivals and can hold on to stay in the mix at the line.

14:25 (York) – The Sky Bet Supporting Macmillan Handicap Stakes

Win tip: Mirabeau

Has been running in stronger company than this at times and has shown the level of ability required to win a race of this nature. His profile suggests he’s been campaigned with valuable 7f handicaps in mind rather than ordinary summer handicaps. A number of runners in this field are specialists in smaller contests, whereas Mirabeau’s profile suggests he’s comfortable in strongly run handicaps where pace collapses late.

Each-way tip: Recency Bias

Has the profile of a horse capable of finding another few pounds of improvement. Looks the sort who can travel into contention late and secure a place even if one or two classier rivals prove too strong.

14:42 (Sandown) – The BetMGM Scurry Stakes (Listed)

Win tip: Words Of Truth

OR of 110 is comfortably the highest in the field and was unbeaten through his first three starts before running an excellent second on his seasonal return. The combination of Charlie Appleby and Oisin Murphy is a major positive.

Each-way tip: Sirius A

Form shows a horse who has been steadily climbing the ladder and competing well in stronger company. He’s not far behind his rivals on official figures but has considerably more scope than some of the older form lines represented in the race.

15:00 (York) – The Sky Bet Race To The Ebor Grand Cup (Listed)

Win tip: Al Qareem

Small field so just the one tip, and it’s Al Qareem who shines the most. York brings out the best in him. Won this race last year and has repeatedly run to a high level on the Knavesmire. His second behind Illinois in the Group 3 Ormonde Stakes at Chester is arguably the strongest recent piece of form in this field.

15:17 (Sandown) – The Read Meg Nicholls’ Blog At BetMGM.uk Handicap

Win tip: Cash

Seven-year-old now, but he has repeatedly shown Class 2 handicap ability and arrives with form that still stacks up well against this field. Many rivals are trying to prove they belong in this grade; Cash has already done so on numerous occasions. In each-way terms, reliability matters.

Each-way tip: Circus Of Rome

Unlike several exposed handicappers in the field, Circus Of Rome still looks to be improving. His recent form figures suggest a horse who has continued to develop since moving into handicaps and may not yet have reached his ceiling.

15:35 (York) – The Churchill Tyres Supporting Macmillan Sprint

Win tip: Post Modern

Lightly raced and open to improvement for powerful connections.

Each-way tip: Back To Me

Recent Hamilton second on good-to-firm ground suggests he is thriving and arrives race-fit. Only a handful of starts and may not yet have reached his ceiling, and the ground should be ideal.

15:55 (Sandown) – The Bet £10 Get £40 With BetMGM Handicap Stakes

Win tip: Sovereign Ocean

Sovereign Ocean looks the type who may be slightly overlooked because he lacks the fashionable profile of some rivals, but his form suggests he is capable of being very competitive from his current mark. Still has room to progress, especially over this sort of trip and track.

Each-way tip: Archer Royal

One of the least exposed runners in the field and has already done enough to earn a mark of 92. Price is appealing.
