ITV horse racing tips and best bets for Kelso, Newbury and Bangor-On-Dee on Saturday, March 21

After a very profitable Cheltenham, normal service is resumed for Sports News Blitz’s horse racing pundit Kieran McHugh.

ITV Racing are showing 10 races on Saturday, from three different meetings, and our racing reporter is looking to continue his fine form.

After a fine Cheltenham Festival for Sports News Blitz, courtesy of stalwart Jeff Mexico and I, we have avoided a ‘no-confidence’ vote in the group chat.

Mr Mexico paid for dinner on the final day, having the nuance to side with Willie Mullins’ outsider in the Triumph Hurdle - returning at 50/1.

The biggest success for myself was taking the Stayers’ Hurdle at 33/1, with Home By the Lee.

Such a success means that I am now able to buy at least a millilitre of diesel.

This money has been put to important and meaningful use, helping pay my train bill to London.

Such a bill was more dismaying to settle after a 20-minute delay out of Euston station and contrary to opinion, there was no repayment.

Perhaps the biggest outlay of my trip came in the form of my mediocre salad dinner, nearly costing a double-figure amount.

As a northerner in the south, that took the biscuit.

Thankfully, I was not charged for that otherwise I would be begging outside Jeff’s exclusive swimming club again.

13:00 (Kelso) — Beeswing Mares’ Hurdle

Hollygrove Cha Cha won a similar event at Warwick and would be a big player if she stays an extended distance.

Sunset Marquesa fell in the Mares’ Hurdle at Cheltenham and is interesting here. Again, distance is a query but she has the form.

13:15 (Newbury) — Newbury Anniversary Novices’ Hurdle

The Gordons have won two of the last five renewals of this and have Kocktail Blue today.

Cecelia Star can improve on winning last time out and carries a flyweight.

13:30 (Kelso) — Handicap Hurdle

Speiriuil has won her last two starts and although upped in the weights, she can continue to improve.

Eloi Du Puy won last time out and will like a bit of cut in the ground. This is not too dissimilar and he can go well again.

13:50 (Newbury) — BetVictor Novices’ Handicap Hurdle

Glancing Jack has been going well and will like this ground. He has a stiff mark but looks like he can overcome it.

Red Oak has been dropped in grade but has some pretty good novice form. He’s a player if handling the weight.

14:10 (Kelso) — Herring Queen Series Final Mares’ Novices’ Handicap Hurdle

Khrisma should have enough in hand to win this with her only negatives coming with the top weight.

Diamonds Galore has finished runner-up on her last three but still ticks a few boxes again.

14:40 (Kelso) — Novice’s Handicap Chase

Moon Phases is consistent on all grounds and distances but is sometimes too keen. If he settles, he has a big chance.

Defence Witness wears blinkers for the first time and if they can straighten him out, then he is consistent enough to land a blow.

14:25 (Newbury) — BetVictor Superboost Handicap Chase 
Heltenham goes well here and has won this in 2023 and 2024. He won the Greatwood Gold Cup last time and can carry on his good form.

Authorised Speed has to overcome an absence but his form previously has been pretty good. He needs to bounce back for that though.

15:00 (Newbury) — Mares’ Novices’ Handicap Hurdle Final

Getawhisky is progressing nicely and will be better for his trip around Market Rasen. 
Fergal O’Brien won this last year and Strong Run could provide him with another victory. She might need softer ground though.

15:20 (Bangor-On-Dee) — Handicap Hurdle

Aurigny Mill won last time out and doesn’t face a major rise for that. Connections are going well also.

Nowmelad is consistent and comes here off a short break. He will be there or thereabouts.

15:35 (Newbury) — Grand Bumper

Madam Speaker showed promise on her debut and could very well improve for connections.

Harzandacassandra met promise on her debut and did not give her true running. She could spring a surprise.
