ITV horse racing tips and best bets for Carlisle, Beverley and Chester on Saturday, May 30

Sports News Blitz’s racing tipster Jeff Mexico has an unusual way of keeping cool in the current heatwave.

He fills his wheelie bin with cold water, positions it outside his nearest bossman shop, strips naked, and climbs inside.

Jeff will spend all day in there, collecting ice creams and cool drinks from generous passing locals, which he then goes and sells down the dogtrack in the evening.

He’d make even more money if he removed the rubbish from the bin before he filled it with water.

Anyway, Jeff has nine races from the north of England to select from this Saturday afternoon as the ITV cameras head to Carlisle, Beverley, and Chester.

Jeff Mexico’s racing tips

Wee Jimmy Krankie … I mean Nicola Sturgeon, revealed this week that she had no idea her husband was embezzling loads of SNP money.

He bought loads of luxury goods, jewelry, cars, and motorhomes, but Wee Jimmy didn’t notice him splashing out, which is very odd.

But I’ve since found out why she was so oblivious to her husband's crimes.

It’s because, with her perfect jockey-like build, she’s been up and down the country riding point-to-point races without anyone noticing.

I’ve even won a couple of bundles betting on her mounts, so she is defo worth keeping an eye on for future races.

13:30 (Carlisle) – Betway Handicap

Win tip: Ghaiyya

Arrives in form after winning at Doncaster and then finishing a solid second at Hamilton earlier this month. Looks progressive as a 4yo filly and may still be ahead of the handicapper despite moving into a stronger Class 2.

Each-way tip: Castle Stuart

Has been competing in stronger handicaps at York and Doncaster and hasn’t been beaten far in either. Current mark of 90 gives him a fighting chance back at this slightly easier venue.

13:45 (Beverley) – Napoleons Casino Hull Handicap

Win tip: Mafting

Small field, so just going with a win tip only and Mafting catches my eye the most.

Redcar win three starts ago over this sort of trip reads very well in the context of this race. Not disgraced in a stronger race last time and Beverley’s turning track should suit his racing style. In a race lacking obvious pace, stall 1 could also be a major positive.

14:00 (Carlisle) – Betway Reverence Handicap

Win tip: Recency Bias

Has been running consistently well in competitive sprint handicaps this season. His latest second suggested he is still improving as a 4yo. Profile is better compared with exposed older handicappers such as Jordan Electrics and Fivethousandtoone.

Each-way tip: Native Honey

Arrives off a recent win and looks like a sprinter who has improved since being dropped back to sharp sprint trips. The low weight is a genuine asset in a race likely to be run at a fierce gallop.

14:15 (Beverley) – Hilary Needler Trophy

Win tip: Kodi Bear Light

Another small field so just one takes my fancy here and Kodi Bear Light certainly gives the impression that the best is yet to come.

Her Thirsk victory was visually very strong for a 2yo filly at this stage of the season. She already looks tactically versatile. At Musselburgh, she showed speed to race prominently; at Thirsk, she settled better and finished powerfully. Stall 10 is not ideal around Beverley, though, so keep that in mind.

14:33 (Carlisle) – Betway Achilles Stakes (Listed Race)

Win tip: Redorange

Only eight in this field, so picking up Redorange for the win only.

His latest victory suggested he has returned this season as a significantly improved 4yo. He travelled smoothly and quickened decisively against strong sprint opposition. His previous fast-ground form is particularly strong, and he shapes like a horse capable of stepping into Group company later this summer. William Buick is a major booking too.

14:48 (Beverley) – Beverley Two-Year-Old Trophy

Win tip: Arapaho Gold

Debut win at Thirsk was much more impressive than the bare margin suggests. The form has already received a significant boost with the runner-up winning decisively next time. He carries only a small penalty despite already being a winner, which leaves him very competitively treated against rivals carrying full penalties.

Each-way tip: Wait Geordie

Third last time is better than it looks. He travelled like the best horse for much of the race before getting caught late after racing a bit too freely. Unlike some debut winners in the race, he has experience of racing in stronger pace scenarios and should cope better if this becomes a searching gallop from halfway.

15:10 (Carlisle) – Betway Lester Piggott Stakes (Group 3)

Win tip: Waardah

Is the only one worth bothering with in another smallish field.

Her 2025 campaign strongly suggested she was progressing rapidly through the ranks before ending the season in much deeper company. Her Listed success at Newmarket was particularly impressive. Still has the profile of a lightly raced filly with more to offer. Several rivals are already exposed at Group level, whereas Waardah may still be improving physically as a 4yo.

15.30 (Chester) – Virgin Bet Handicap

Win tip: Supido

Recent Chester course-and-distance win was exactly the type of performance you want to see before returning to this track. Draw 3 is ideal for this sort of race and Supido has shown he can handle race pressure in big fields.

Each-way: Miami Matrix

Seasonal reappearance fourth was much better than the bare result. Very well suited to turning tracks and his best form last season came when races were strongly run.

15:45 (Carlisle) – Betway Silver Bowl (Handicap)

Win tip: Laureate Crown

Arrives seeking a hat-trick after two convincing handicap wins this spring. Shapes like a horse who will appreciate Carlisle’s demanding uphill finish. His latest win suggests he was still finding more in the final furlong rather than emptying out.

Each-way tip: Archer Royal

Juvenile form was very smart and included efforts in stronger company than most of these have contested. Buick taking the ride is a major positive and stall 1 gives him the chance to save ground throughout if he breaks sharply enough.
