Horse racing tips: Best bets for Punchestown Festival and Newmarket - May 2
There is some top quality horse racing on Friday across both jumps at the Punchestown Festival and flat racing at Newmarket.
Some of the sport's biggest names are back in action as punters look to see if Constitution Hill, once the best hurdler in the country, can finish for the first time in three races.
Here, Sports News Blitz’s horse racing tipster Connor Brooks gives his best bets for the day.
Punchestown Festival
3:40pm - Fountain House - 13/8 Bet365 1u win
It should be a good start to the day for Ian McCarthy as trainer for the two runners leading the market but I think Fountain House, unbeaten in his last five starts, will have too much for Eyes Off Annie.
The win over Asphalt Cowboy at Thurles, beating him by 4+ lengths, carries over well with Asphalt Cowboy going on to win his next start and being well backed on Friday.
5:25pm - Moon D’Orange - 8/1 Bet365, William Hill, Coral 0.5u ew
Quite keen on this one. Ran well in defeat at Cheltenham finishing fourth in a strong field.
Sean Bowen is back on board - he is simply on fire at the minute and has won on this horse before.
6:05pm - The Yellow Clay - 6/4 William Hill, Coral 1u win
A repeat of the Turners at Cheltenham in March but without The New Lion.
The Yellow Clay finished second that day ahead of the favourite Final Demand.
These two meet again here on Friday but with The Yellow Clay leading the market. The form reads well and I think we see The Yellow Clay come out on top.

Newmarket
2:20pm - Symbol Of Honour - 8/1 Everywhere 0.5u ew
Useful last year and has started 2025 off strongly with wins at Meydan in January and February.
Should prove effective over 7f. Will be tough to beat the fav.
3:30pm - Fifty Nifty - 2/1 Coral 1u win
Set to record a fitting win in this ‘Nifty 50’ handicap. Lightly raced and looks the type to improve going off of past runs. Key player and needs to be respected.
4:45 - Ormolulu - 10/1 0.5u ew
Slow starts seem to be an issue but did record four wins on the AW this winter. First start on turf for this yard and looks promising. If it goes well, it could be a big player.
Daily Doubles
Muggy Double: Alpine Trail (1:45pm Newmarket), Constitution Hill (6:40pm Punchestown) - 2/1 1u
Alpine Trail I have no concerns about, should go very well on Friday and get another win banked for the Buick/Appleby combination.
Now Constitution Hill, if he can get over all nine hurdles, he wins. It is that simple.
The switch to James Bowen might be good for the horse with no fear or previous worries in his head.
EW Double: Ormolulu (4:45pm Newmarket), Moon D’Orange (5:25pm Punchestown) - 98/1 0.25u ew
Reasonings above, just a fun little play with a big reward.
Always do a little bit of research on my picks before you put any money on, don’t blindly follow me as I don’t sit with a crystal ball.
These are just horses I like the look of from years of watching the sport.
Always gamble responsibly, don’t chase losses and when the fun stops, stop. (GambleAware)
