Horse racing news: Record-breaking Old Gold Racing deal sees Outmaster join Paul Nicholls’ yard
Old Gold Racing have shown their support for 14-time Champion Trainer Paul Nicholls with the launch of their most expensive horse purchase to date in the shape of the exciting Outmaster.
The £90,000 gelding was a decisive winner of his debut point-to-point, cruising home still on the bridle and finishing a full 12 lengths clear of his nearest rival, with that performance earning Outmaster the title of leading four-year-old UK point-to-pointer earlier this year.
Now in training at Nicholls’ powerhouse Ditcheat yard, Outmaster is Old Gold Racing’s most expensive ever purchase, and the team is eager to see how far he can go under the guidance of one of National Hunt racing’s most decorated trainers.
Outmaster ‘a sheer delight’
Nicholls told Old Gold Racing: “Obviously he’s a point-to-point winner, so he has plenty of form, but he’s a nice big scopey horse, nice pedigree, and a real nice individual.
“He’s by Masterstroke, who is a fairly new sire, but he’s got a good line and a good dam line. He’s from a strong staying family and plenty of winners are in there, which is always a plus.
“He’s already a winner, he looks a very smart individual, which is what I like. I loved the way he travelled in his race and the way he jumped in his point-to-point. He won it very nicely for a four-year-old on his first time, and he’s only going to improve from that.
“He’s been nothing but a sheer delight since he arrived – he was soon cantering after a fortnight, and he cruises up over our hill and does everything nicely. He’s not massive, but he’s quite forward-going, a really racey type, so he’s not going to take forever.
“That’s why we can crack on with him. I’d say he’ll have four or five runs this season, so he’s one that we can get started with straight away.
“At the end of the day, you need horses that you can have lots of fun with, and he fits the bill very nicely. He’s only four – I expect we’ll start him off in a bumper and then go novice hurdling.”

Exciting times at Ditcheat
Ed Seyfried, Chief Executive Officer of Old Gold Racing, added: “We’re thrilled to be sending Outmaster to Paul Nicholls. Paul is one of the great modern-day trainers, and with an exciting season ahead, we can’t wait to see what Outmaster can achieve at Ditcheat.
“He’s our most expensive purchase to date, and we felt he was the perfect horse to join Paul as he continues to restock his yard with top-class talent.
“Our owners always love having horses at Ditcheat, and we’re looking forward to seeing Outmaster reward that support on the track.”
Outmaster is the latest in Old Gold Racing’s ever-growing string of syndicate horses, and with shares available, racing fans now have the chance to be part of this exciting new journey alongside Paul Nicholls and his team at Ditcheat.
