Golf betting tips: John Deere Classic – Chris Kirk to continue hot streak, Kevin Roy an outside pick

The PGA Tour heads to Illinois this week for the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run.

With narrow fairways and numerous strategically placed bunkers and hazards, the par-71 course is set to provide a unique challenge while demanding precision off the tee.

It’s not overly long by Tour standards – coming in at 7,289 yards – so 75-150 yards will be the all-important approach distance, meaning that those who excel with the wedge and can find some form with the flatstick have the opportunity to go extremely low this week.

Here, Sports News Blitz and Travel News Blitz writer Sam Condy picks four of his favourite bets ahead of the action.

Michael Kim

Michael Kim arrives at the John Deere Classic as a former winner, having won there in 2018.

He is also on a run of 10 consecutive cuts, including three majors and three signature events, and is showing no signs of slowing down in his output.

Indeed, a recent runner-up finish at TPC Scottsdale showed that he still has the goods when his swimming is feeling smooth.

His wedges have been particularly exceptional this season, looking consistently dangerous from 75-150 yards out – a distance that could be crucial this week.

Ben Griffin

Ben Griffin returns to the John Deere after a T5 finish here on debut last year, and it’s hard to ignore his recent form.

He has placed inside the top 14 in his last six starts, including a breakthrough win at Colonial and an impressive runner-up finish at the Memorial, and moreover ranks 21st on tour for SG: Tee-to-Green and second for Total Birdies.

The American’s consistently tidy ball-striking has made him a real threat to even the biggest names throughout 2025.

In the end, TPC Deere Run rewards aggression – something Griffin has in abundance – so his numbers should really be lower this week, making him a steal at current odds.

Chris Kirk

After a phenomenal showing at last week’s Rocket Classic – where he narrowly missed out in a heated play-off – I’m going to back Chris Kirk once again.

He is currently amongst the best on tour with a wedge in hand, especially at this week’s important 75-150 yard range.

It’s also worth mentioning that, in combination with a long and accurate game off the tee, Kirk has built a strong track record at the John Deere over the years, with five top 30s in seven starts.

Kevin Roy

Kevin Roy comes into the John Deere Classic riding a solid stretch of form, with five straight cuts made and finishes of 15th, 18th, and a standout eighth last week showcasing that his game appears to be trending in the right direction.

At 35, he is far from a rookie, but he appears to be having something of a resurgence in 2025.

Interestingly, he has performed well this year amongst the weaker fields, which bodes well for Illinois.

And considering that four of the last seven winners at TPC Deere Run have claimed their maiden PGA Tour win in the process, could this finally be Roy’s week?
