Golf betting tips: Daniel Berger to challenge Scottie Scheffler at Charles Schwab Challenge

The PGA Tour heads to Fort Worth, Texas, this week for the Charles Schwab Challenge at the esteemed Colonial Country Club.

Colonial, it must be said, is a tough ask for even the most seasoned of professionals as its classic layout features tight, tree-lined fairways that favour accuracy and intelligent play, with stray shots being heavily punished.

It also strays from typical courses in the modern PGA era thanks to its 7,289-yard par-70 course showing little care for raw power and aggression.

Indeed, players who are accurate and efficient off the tee are set to have a huge advantage this week when brawn is sidelined by precision at Colonial.

Here, Sports News Blitz golf betting tipster Sam Condy breaks down four of the top picks ahead of the action.

Daniel Berger

Berger currently has nine top 25s from 13 starts this season and has been looking consistently solid throughout 2025.

Having won here in the past, the 32-year-old has a proven affinity for the Colonial Country Club.

And looking at his recent stats, he ranks right up alongside the best in the field this week.

Is Scottie Scheffler still the heavy favourite? Yes, but Berger is certainly a dangerous proposition and one well worth backing.

Best odds: 22/1 (6EW, 1/5) with Paddy Power

J.T. Poston

Poston has had a phenomenal year and his form is showing no signs of drying up.

Following a fifth-place finish at last week's PGA Championship, the American has now made 13 consecutive cuts on tour.

Accuracy and intelligence are key at the Colonial, and Poston ranks highly in all important metrics in those areas.

He sits 21st in Hole Proximity from 100-125 yards, 12th in Driving Accuracy, and 10th for SG: Putting (Bentgrass).

Best odds: 40/1 (6EW, 1/5) with Paddy Power

Harris English

English is a player whose career seems to be gathering a second wind.

T2 at the PGA Championship marked his second top 15 major finish of the season, and 11th at Truist proved that he is not lacking consistency.

There is also an extra incentive for English to perform well this week: he currently sits seventh in the Ryder Cup standings, and a strong finish here will make him a hard man for Team USA to pass up on.

Aaron Rai

Rai is a great pick this week, especially given his elite ball-striking ability.

Tight, tree-lined fairways make accuracy a must, and Rai delivers this in buckets.

The Englishman ranked first for SG: Approach at Quail Hollow, while he sits 20th in this metric across the whole season.

Rai also ranks 21st in Tee to Green and 35th Off the Tee.

Perhaps most importantly, he ranks first in accuracy with his big stick – when a course is as tight as Colonial, that is a statistic that could make all the difference.

Best odds: 30/1 (6EW, 1/5) with Sky Bet
