F1 news: Ferrari need to get 2026 right to avoid a difficult 2027

After a forgettable 2025 for Ferrari and 2026 needing to be absolutely perfect, the landscape of the Prancing Horse of F1 could look different in 2027.

Here, Sports News Blitz’s Mosaddek Abu breaks down Ferrari’s struggles and what lies ahead for the Scuderia as they prepare for a defining year.

From promise to downfall

Off the back of a positive 2024, where Ferrari were nearly perfect compared to their rivals, Red Bull, Mercedes, and McLaren finished second in the Constructors' Championship.

The excitement that the Tifosi expected in 2025 hasn't quite met expectations, with it being a downright forgettable year for the team.

The arrival of Lewis Hamilton hasn't been what many people hoped it would be, and Charles Leclerc has voiced frustrations plenty of times throughout the course of the year.

Hamilton's first year has been no short of difficulties, with him lacking confidence in the car and trying to build a relationship with new race engineer Riccardo Adami.

Leclerc has had seven seasons with the Scuderia and, within that time, has competed for the Drivers' Championship on one occasion.

If they find themselves behind Mercedes, Red Bull and McLaren, then Leclerc will likely open himself up to other potential suitors for 2027.

A defining opportunity ahead

The 2026 regulation changes present a significant opportunity for both Leclerc and Hamilton, as well as Ferrari, to not only chase their rivals but also to be ahead.

Oliver Bearman, a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, has caught the team's attention after getting his best result of the season, finishing P4 in Mexico.

Now, despite Lewis' improved performances post-summer break, particularly in qualifying, and closing the gap to team-mate Leclerc.

Rumours have it that Ferrari could swap him out for Bearman in 2027, as they believe they cannot plan a project with a driver nearing the end of his career.

Kimi Raikkonen is still the last Ferrari driver to have won a WDC with Ferrari back in 2007, whilst their previous WCC came in 2008.

The following year is crucial in Ferrari's history, as it will determine the future of their driver lineup and the next set of regulations.
