F1 news: Ferrari chairman John Elkann urges focus at the Scuderia after disastrous Brazil GP

John Elkann, chairman of the Italian racing team Scuderia Ferrari, has called for his drivers to “talk less and focus on driving” after a disappointing weekend at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

At the Sao Paulo GP, both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc failed to finish the race - Leclerc after a collision and Hamilton following a series of issues, including damage and penalties.

The team’s hopes of making up ground this season have taken a hit: Ferrari now find themselves fourth in the Constructors’ Championship behind Red Bull and Mercedes.

Elkann’s message

John Elkann pointed out that while the mechanics and engineers at Ferrari are doing strong work - especially in the pit-stops and car development - other areas are “not up to standard.”

"If we look at our engineers, the car has undoubtedly improved. If we look at the rest, it's not up to standard,” he said.

In a season where expectations were high for Ferrari to challenge for top honours, these back-to-back failures add pressure. According to Elkann, there's still time to bounce back - “finishing second in the Constructors’ isn’t impossible.”

Looking ahead

The drivers and team now head into the final stretch of the season under increased scrutiny.

With just three races remaining, every session, every pitstop and every decision will matter more than ever. For Hamilton, still adapting to Ferrari, and Leclerc, expected to lead the team forward, this is a pivotal moment.

If Ferrari wants to salvage a respectable finish to the year, the spotlight is on the cockpit: less talking, more racing.
