F1 analysis: How Ferrari fell short in the 2025 Formula 1 season
With few highs and many lows, Ferrari endured a disappointing Formula 1 season in 2025.
The team wrestled with efforts to find consistency and reliability - issues that marked the overall campaign in an underwhelming year.
In this article, Sports News Blitz’s Ellie Man reflects on what was a long and difficult season for the Scuderia.
Lewis Hamilton signed
The 2025 F1 season felt full of promise for Tifosi as Ferrari were at the centre of a shock signing.
With seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton set to join the Prancing Horses, the team seemed ready to fight at the front again, boasting a strong driver line-up.
Going into his sixth year with the team, Charles Leclerc’s intimate experience in Ferrari, married with Hamilton’s unmatched record of success, was sure to be a combination to bring glory back to Maranello.
But dreams of victory were short-lived.
Hamilton struggled throughout the entirety of the season, having to get used to a different car set-up, a new team, and working culture.
His continued trials saw him suffer through his worst season in F1, scoring 156 points without any wins or podiums.
His highest position was P4, and he ultimately came in P6 in the driver standings.
It was a disappointing campaign for both Ferrari and Hamilton, and Tifosi were left wondering how the season had gone so wrong.

The SF-25
The SF-25 just needed to be competitive to bring the full package together. But the car was far from title-contending.
Early hopes of having a dominant car were quickly culled as McLaren stormed ahead - though at times chased by Red Bull and Mercedes.
Max Verstappen, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in order stood on the podium in that order at both Imola and Monza, knocking both Ferrari drivers off the stand with two P4 finishes.
The failure to climb onto the podium at home alongside the loss in Imola were sadly not the only blows to the dedicated Tifosi, with failed upgrades throughout the season and outdevelopment by almost every other team on the grid.
Midfield teams such as Williams and Haas proved their race pace against the difficult Ferrari car, highlighting what fans already knew: the SF-25 was a huge let-down.
Ferrari were left stuck in the midst of the grid, regardless of their impressive line-up and prepared pitstop crew.
All the 2.0-second pitstops in the world couldn’t bridge the gap between the SF-25 and other rivals, and so, earning DHL’s Fastest Pitstop Award did little to soothe the frustrations of a poorly-performing car.

A winless season
Ferrari ended the season at P4 in the Constructors’ Championship with a grand total of 398 points scored.
With no wins, 2025 marked the worst position for Ferrari since 2020, when the whole world had been largely disrupted by COVID-19.
Leclerc achieved the bulk of the points in 2025, achieving each of the seven podiums that brought mild relief to the team.
However, this simultaneously served as a painful reminder of his three (out of Ferrari’s five) wins in 2024, with the Prancing Horses only narrowly missing out on the Constructors’ Championship by 14 points.
Having slipped down from P2 in the Championship in 2025, it was a season to forget for Ferrari - but perhaps the push needed to refocus for the future.
With new regulations incoming for the 2026 season and rumours of rival teams showing interest in Ferrari’s drivers, next year could finally bring forward the turnaround sorely needed.
Or at least, that’s what Tifosi hope for. They have been saying that for 17 years after all.
