Epsom Derby Day ITV horse racing tips and best bets on Saturday, June 6

This week, Sports News Blitz tipster Jeff Mexico has been measuring the height of buildings for Donald Trump.

Jeff discovered that Carnon Downs Garden Centre in Truro, the Ship Inn in Exeter, and Oh, For Goodness Cake! in Shrewsbury are not as tall as the Lincoln Memorial, which seemed to please the US commander-in-chief … even though he was asleep at the time.

Away from measuring the size of phallic constructions, it’s Derby Day and Jeff has six tips to dig up for ITV’s coverage this Saturday afternoon from Epsom.

Jeff Mexico’s betting tips

Epsom used to have a lot of pubs named after Derby-winning horses or things associated with the sport.

They included The Amato, The Ladas, The Eclipse, The Spread Eagle, The Blenheim, The Rubbing House, and of course the unoriginally named Derby Arms.

I can safely say I’ve been thrown out of most of these establishments for ungentlemanly behaviour … mainly for removing my trousers.

Interestingly, there has been a long-held gypsy tradition of a mysterious tipster writing the name of the potential winner on the wishing well at the Amato, now foolishly called the Grumpy Mole.

The prediction is said to come true three out of four times, so it’s definitely worth considering this year’s selection of second-favourite Item. Don’t say I didn’t tell you so.

13.30 (Epsom) – The Betfred Tattenham Corner Stakes (Group 3)

Main tip: Alcantor

Smallish field so just one tip here, and Alcantor has caught my eye as he has the profile of a horse who is consistently competing at a higher level than most of these.

His recent form figures don’t scream ‘winner’, but they came in stronger company than this and he shaped encouragingly on his latest start.

14.05 (Epsom) – The Princess Elizabeth Stakes (Group 3)

Main tip: Princess Child

The market appears focused on She’s Perfect and Pacific Mission, but Princess Child’s ratings suggest she is closer to them than the betting implies.

Has raced in stronger company than many of these and looks capable of improving on just her second start of the season.

Arrives off a disappointing latest run, so really needs to show she’s retained her peak form.

Each-way tip: Arisaig

Is proven over similar trips and has enough tactical versatility to secure a good position from stall six.

With only nine runners declared, she looks one of the more likely horses to hit the frame.

14.40 (Epsom) – The Coolmore Coronation Cup (Group 1)

Main tip: Jan Brueghel

Small field so just one tip again and I’m siding with defending Coronation Cup winner Jan Brueghel, who beat rival Calandagan in the 2025 race.

Proven Epsom form is a major positive because the track’s undulations catch out many top-class horses, and the likely good-to-soft conditions should not inconvenience him.

15:15 (Epsom) – The Betfred ‘Dash’ Handicap Stakes

Main tip: Kinswoman

The Dash is a five-furlong 20-horse downhill cavalry charge, so anything could happen when you take into account all the traffic, but it’s the favourite Kinswoman who will be winking at me as I take my place in the Tattenham Corner pub.

She arrives in excellent form after a narrow defeat on her seasonal reappearance at Yarmouth.

Unlike many in the field, she still has scope for improvement and may not yet have reached the ceiling of her handicap mark.

Each-way tip: Eclairage

Her recent form is very solid, including a runner-up effort on her latest start.

Billy Loughnane in the seat too.

16:00 (Epsom) – The Betfred Derby (Group 1)

Main tip: Item

Some bloke wrote it on a pub wishing well in Epsom.

What more do you want? Didn’t you read what I said above?

Each-way tip: Action

Respectable second behind Item in the Dante Stakes, traditionally one of the strongest Derby trials.

Has a profile typical of a Derby improver: lightly raced, still learning, and bred to stay.

16:40 (Epsom) – The Cherryfield Lester Piggott Handicap Stakes

Main tip: Allegresse

Comes from the Andrew Balding yard, which has an outstanding record in this race, having won it three times in recent years.

His record reads 2-1-1-7-4, and the key point is that the seventh-place finish came in stronger company than this.

He returned with a respectable fourth on his seasonal debut and is entitled to improve for that run.

The Balding and Oisin Murphy combo is a big plus.

Each-way tip: Folk Pageant

Latest Chester victory catches the eye – he travelled strongly, stayed on well, and looked as though further improvement was still to come.

Chester form often translates well to Epsom too because both tracks demand balance around bends.
