EFL: Asmir Begovic backs lowly Leicester City to ‘find their rhythm’ in League One
Asmir Begovic has backed his former club Leicester City to compete for League One promotion this season despite a miserable start to the new campaign.
The Foxes suffered back-to-back relegations and there doesn't appear light at the end of the tunnel as they languish 18th in League One with just five points from their opening five matches.
Russell Martin has come under immense scrutiny following their torrid start to the season, and many are calling for his head and doubting his credentials already so early on.
However, Begovic believes the Foxes will be right up there come the end of the season, admitting the team will soon 'get used to the manager's demands' and 'become more comfortable.'
A fantastic football club
Begovic told Hajper: "Leicester is a fantastic football club, and of course, it's a club that shouldn't be in League One; I think we're all aware of that.
"There's been so much change this summer, so many players leaving, new arrivals, a new manager, and a new way of playing.
“It's going to take time, especially with the signings made on Deadline Day.
"That squad has been under construction all summer, and there's been a lot of work put into it.
“As the season goes on, they'll find their rhythm, get used to the manager's demands, and become more comfortable.
"From that aspect, I definitely see Leicester being where they need to be at the end of the year.
“That's what it's all about, with 46 games to get through, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they're right up there at the top of the League One table by the end of the season."
Tough test next for Foxes
Martin endured a chastening day at the office on Saturday as Leicester were thrashed 4-0 at home to Oxford United - with chants from sections of the home support calling for him to be sacked already.
Martin and his Leicester side have an opportunity to reverse their fortunes when they take on Stockport this weekend away from home.
However, they'll be in for another very tough afternoon with Stockport sitting third with nine points from their first five matches.
