WWE news: Becky Lynch set the blueprint - now its time for WWE to follow it

Becky Lynch did a great job at establishing the Women's Intercontinental Championship, but with her no longer the champion, it shouldn't halt WWE's creative efforts.

On Monday night Raw at the “World's Famous Arena,” Maddison Square Garden, Maxxine Dupri won her first singles Championship by defeating Lynch.

Lynch held the Women's Intercontinental title from June 8 after beating the then-champion Lyra Valkyria at Money In The Bank, writes Sports News Blitz’s Mosaddek Abu.

Lynch is one of the biggest names on the roster, and they recognise her star power; she is a draw and on par with Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes and CM Punk.

But now, with her losing it, all the hard work and effort she put into making it a relevant midcard title for the Raw Women's division, has to be carried forward by the new champion, Dupri.

When the WWE introduced the Women's IC title at the start of the year, Valkyria was crowned the inaugural Champion.

However, whilst Valkyria was featured almost every week, there was a failure to establish the title as a prize that superstars outside the Women's World Championship scene could go for.

Title defences were inconsistent, and it didn't get featured on WrestleMania, with Valkyria teaming with Lynch instead and winning the Women's tag team titles with her.

But it wasn’t until Lynch turned heel and entered a feud with Valkyria that we started to see the title get into the spotlight, consistently featured, and eventually made its way onto PPVs.

That's Becky Lynch's work, though, not the WWE's.

Becky a linchpin

Lynch was the one who pushed for a midcard title to feature in the Raw Women's division, as she recognises the depth and quality of the superstars within, that don't get the chance to be on TV weekly or can't break into the main-event picture.

Immediately, she made two new stars.

Valkyria comes out of that feud with Lynch looking like a credible main-event threat and, more importantly, has improved her craft on the mic, which was a weak point before she started feuding with Lynch.

When you have a focused veteran holding a title like the Women's Intercontinental Championship, they intend to highlight talent that goes unnoticed, help them take that final step, and at the same time, make the title feel important.

So when someone like Dupri comes along, it's an even bigger deal when they win the title from her, and credit goes to Lynch for that.

Lynch & Dupri rivalry

In the last few weeks, she treated Dupri like a threat to her Championship.

She recognised how hard Dupri had worked to improve inside the ring, and it showed during that first match they had on the October 6 edition of Raw, where Dupri stunned everyone.

She actually looked like she belonged in that ring with Lynch, getting “this is awesome” chants from the crowd, after a really good match on Raw.

Lynch set the blueprint, and it's down to WWE to continue that momentum, what they have done over on SmackDown with the Women's United States Championship is the opposite of this.

Smackdown’s struggles in the Women’s division

Giulia hasn't become a mediocre talent overnight; it's WWE's lack of creative effort to come up with any credible challengers for her, and ultimately, they pivoted back to Chelsea Green.

Green is also currently pulling double duty by working NXT shows, and there will be a chance that a few rising talents in the NXT women's division will get to work with Green.

But it’s WWE’s creative team that should be coming to that realisation - they could have done the same thing with Giulia if they wanted to keep the title reign fresh and interesting.

But purely focusing on the Women's IC title scene, Dupri is now the IC Champion, and there is no doubt that she will try to replicate what Lynch did.

But it's also up to WWE and their creative team to keep the Women's IC title scene on Raw a constant feature week to week; otherwise, you are failing the talent in the division, and Dupri comes under fan scrutiny.

Meaning Lynch’s hard work over the past five months to earn the title of one of the most prestigious on Raw would have been for nothing.
