Wrestling news: NXT superstars to shine on John Cena’s final Saturday Night’s Main Event
For the first time since Survivor Series 2019, NXT will be part of a WWE main roster show, as on John Cena’s final night, the best of Raw and SmackDown will take on NXT.
Rather than letting it all be about himself, the 17-time champion wants to use his last show to showcase the young talent on the WWE's Black and Gold brand, who compete every Tuesday night.
Sports News Blitz writer Mosaddek Abu takes a look at what will be a massive night for the NXT talent.
John Cena is giving back
On June 27, 2002, a brash young upstart made his debut against Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle.
That brash upstart turned out to be the 17x champion and certified first ballot Hall of Famer, John Cena.
At the time, a rookie, but he had the opportunity to present himself on a larger scale.
On his final show, on his final night, where he’ll wrestle his final match, he wanted talent from NXT to be a part of it all.
They will compete against main roster talents and present themselves to a larger audience in Washington, D.C.
They will have the eyes of the world on them, too, with Saturday Night’s Main Event streaming on YouTube internationally.
Cena wants to present them with the same opportunities that he had when he was making his way up.

The time is now for NXT
Je’von Evans, TNA superstar and X Division champion Leon Slater, Sol Ruca and NXT Champion Oba Femi are just a few names that will be part of Saturday Night’s Main Event.
This is as big a spotlight as NXT has gotten for some time, and yes, there have been a few crossovers where we have seen some of the members of the NXT make a few appearances on Raw or SmackDown.
But this is a big deal because the last time we saw a decent amount of NXT talent on one show was in 2019, when WWE did ‘SmackDown vs Raw vs NXT’ at Survivor Series.
It’s a clever way to show the industry's future, because some of these names could, in a few years, headline WrestleMania or SummerSlam.
A spotlight as big as Cena’s last show, being headlined by the 17x champ himself, will get these young talents showcasing their abilities, opening up people’s eyes to NXT.
This is an opportunity to shape the future of WWE and make it clear that these guys will be here for years to come.
Cena has recently paid a few visits to the WWE Performance Centre and wanted to see NXT recognised. He’s on his way out, but these guys are on their way in and will be here for the long term.
You talk about moments in Wrestling, well, for those NXT superstars competing on Saturday, this is their moment, their opportunity, the brightest lights will be on them to make themselves known.
Cena’s time is up, but their time is now.
